James are you using an HVLP gun? Will you be wet sanding and buffing? The paint looks nice and smooth!

HVLP.....nnaa, I'm old school... Really, these clears we have now I can't spray for crap and when I use a HVLP it gets that much worse so I stick to my sweet, old Sharpe 775....I need to nib a few things out and buff....like a couple of runs :Dou: but they aint to bad....

I haven't tried the HVLP guns yet myself. I am also an old school painter. Although I've only painted a couple cars, my last one turned out incredible. I can't wait to get a frech coat on the convertible. That may be a while though.

I can use the HVLP guns pretty good for everything but the clears, sometimes I think its just PPG's, but I'm pretty sure its the guns and the fact I just don't spray enough anymore...I manage the shop and do repairs but not the paint....I have a really good painter but when he's on vacation I have to cover for him and man its it tough, so I just stick with whats safe for me to use and thats the 775, I just change tips and roll on.

James, That's Awesome!!....I've only painted a few, but I still find it's one of THE most satisfying accomplishments I've done....all those hours and hours (and hours) of prep FINALLY paid off!
I used a HVLP gun for the first time on my '66 Special... I prefered a std gun, the HVLP requires you stay closer to the surface (?)...I didn't know that! Had lots of orange peel, but it still turned out very nice.

    Congradulations!

I'm just curious when you guy's sprayed with the HVLP guns did you change your hose/couplers and nipples to the high volume ones? if you didn't you are just choking the gun! That is probably the reason for poor finish. I've been spraying with a HVLP for 10 Years now and they work great. I know most of you stated you just do it once in awhile but if you were going to give it a try i now you would be pleased with the finish.

    Food for thought.

It takes some getting used to but once you learn you can do some kicka$$ things with the hvlp guns.
