My 70 GS350 is Aqua Mist with white painted hard top(34 10). I haven't seen too many GSs with the painted top instead of vinyl. Are there any numbers on how many cars came this way?
According to Mike Trommetters figure book there were 602 made in 70 Flint 455 88 350 127 Framingham 455 9 350 49 Leeds 455 51 350 150 Fremont 455 29 350 99 Total 455 177 total 350 425 This was code D99 on the UPC sheet
Jon, I don't have the 70 GS daily car reports, but if its like the other years,it doesn't break the color combos down any further than what I posted. Sorry, it is for total amounts not by color combo.Still...its a rarity that I am fond of myself.
Thanks . I really appriciate the info. I would guess the number for Aqua Mist/White would be pretty low if there were only 425 total 350 cars built. Especially since the number of Aqua Mist in general seems to be low. Thanks again.
John I also have a Cortez gold with black painted top on my 71 GS350 with 4speed. I also own one years ago of a 70 Skylark red with white painted top car. I also agree with you I have only seen a few of the painted steel top. By the way I am in the middle a frame up restoration on my 71GS350 and on the left side of the firewall it has making noting a two number which indicates the color of the car and color of the painted top. My car had been painted when I got it, but had all the interior out and hadn't been started in a couple of years. I now have the engine running and I am ready to do the inside. I bought this car just to resale but I may need to keep it now. Jon
Any chance you could put up a picture of the painted top? Pretty interesting idea to do to my 69 Lark rather than putting on a vinyl top.
Back in the eighties I saw one of Basketball Sam's cars - Blue with a white painted top. Pretty cool - hadn't seen that before. My car is factory with no vinyl and no white top with code 16-16 paint.
There is a fellow here on the board who owns a Stage 1 my dad bought new in the fall of 69 that is burgandy mist on the bottom with a painted white top. Those were my high school's colors and I talked pops into ordering it that way. The current owner has a picture of it in his avatar. I am currently doing a tribute to that car with the same paint scheme. It will be a while before I can post pictures though. It is at media blast now.
My old '70 Skylark was a painted hardtop car, Harvest Gold and Bamboo Cream. Not a GS but still cool. Hope to find a nother someday.
One of my GS455 coupes is a Gulfstream Blue/White painted top car... I like it because it did not create a rust hole in the window channel! Unfortunately I like cars without a two tone or vinyl top. I don't know if I should paint it a solid color or go back to original. Since the original motor is gone I think I will do it how I want it to look! Interesting option however.
Do you really, really want it????? It will be for sale in the coming months, once the new interior is in place and the transmission rebuilt and a few odds and ends taken care of. I'll keep you posted.
