I had to replace my lower windshield channel & now I want to paint the top of the dash , I was able to duplicate the sheen and texture on a test panel using epoxy primer and hot rod black urethane. Can that combo be applied over the lacquer currently on top of the dash?
If not what would be the best primer to use to top coat the lacquer using the hot rod black urethane ?
    Appreciate any help,
    Thanks
    Jeff

Back in the day, the cautionary saying was; enamel over lacquer is okay, lacquer over enamel is not. If you paint lacquer over enamel it crinkles the enamel. I am not up to date on current paints and lacquer.

Check your primer material sheet, but I think you can do this. Usually you don't let the epoxy primer sit too long and put the finish coat on as soon as the primer allows.

Should be no problem. I would put one coat of epoxy primer on as a sealer before shooting the color, wet on wet, 15 mins apart.

How long did that black lacquer last? Why not just repaint it with flat black lacquer and call it done.

I had checked on getting the black suede lacquer like it was originally, but at $150.00 -$200.00 a pint I’m going with the materials I already have left over from doing other parts of the car . I am also painting the top of the cowl at the same time , which will have a smooth finish while the dash will be slightly textured.
All paint is removed from the cowl and I don’t want to have to remove it from the dash since it is in good condition except for front edge where repair was made. Just trying to get advice from people who are more experienced with paint.
And wanted to make sure it wasn’t a bad move.
    I appreciate everyone’s help.
    Thanks again
