Hello Everyone, Well... Santa was good to me this year and brought a brand new in the box parachute for the race car. Can anyone post some pics of where this thing has to be mounted and the metal work used to mount the parachute? Thanks In Advance
Must be a real pain in the butt to have to have one of them on your car! I bet that I can speak for the majority on here to say they wish they had to install one.Maybe someday (GOD willing) I will have to put one on my 70 GS too. :Brow: Pat
Guys, Thanks for the responses thus far. Peter..... yours was just to damn funny!!!!!! Pete, as of right now I dont need one. My car has gone 149.95 mph. Rules say ya must have one at 150. Thanks and keep the pics coming!
I wanted to get the photo in the shut-down area but I never worked it out with the picture guy,So no,I haven't used it yet. I keep telling everyone that at 137-138 mph it probably won't open,It'll just fall on the ground and drag behind me
A friend of mine (Tufbuick) once asked one of the Pro-Mod guys at Cecil County, what the leave was like in his 7 second car. The guy replied "The leave is nothing, now the parachute hit, that'll roll your socks down"
A good example is Jegs C. in Pro Stock. They always have the onboard camera in his car. When he hits the release you can see his head snap forward. That has to hurt if you're not ready for it.
Hey John Your welcome to come over and check out the mount on Li'l Scat(skyhawk),its well done. No,as of yet we don't make enough power to need it ,140mph,but at my age I don't know if my bones could take the hit on the big end. gary
John I believe for NHRA if you run in the 8's or 150 you need a chute. My son still hasn't tried his even though he has gone 8:58@163 at Cecil a few years ago.
Well known to aerobatic pilots that the body will tolerate postive Gs much better than negative Gs. Do an inside loop at 4s to 5 sustained Gs no problem except for the strain of being very heavy and perhaps the beginning of tunnel vision. However, do a negative G maneuver like an outside loop and it is easy and common to burst the blood vessels in your eyes. When you get down well the whites of your eyes are blood red kinda like Bela Lugosi's. Good reason to respect the chute effect.
I've used mine 3 or 4 times since installing it last summer. The first time I took JW's advice and waited til I was a couple hundred feet past the finish line and got it down to around 100 mph before I dropped the laundry. Jim said if the mounting bar for the chute is too high, it'll yank the rear of the car right off the ground. If it's too low, it'll fail to open because the wind won't catch it. I thought I'd find out about mine at a safer speed than 150. It took a few seconds to open going that slow, but it didn't do anything nasty, so I was happy. When I popped it at top speed, it didn't thump so hard that it yanked me forward, it was more like I had stepped on the brake pedal real hard, but not too hard, if that makes any sense to you guys. o No: John, my buddy has a digital camera. I could ask him to take some shots inside my trailer (where my car is sleeping) if you think there's enough similarity between our cars. I'd say George's car is probably closer to yours if JW could post some of his setup. Let me know.
I THINK I WILL TELL MY WIFE AND MY FRIENDS,THE DAY I NEED TO BUY A PARACHUTE FOR MY GS,IS THE DAY I WILL BE DONE WORKING ON IT.
