Parents no longer rule the roost.

Hind sight is 20/20. Sure it would work, but does a parent have to think like a lawyer to raise their kids? I guess on the west coast they probably do....since the kids seem to be able to raise themselves with the courts (or sicko judge's) approval...

    Ken

Again don't get me wrong here. That ruling stinks!

My belief is my family is first over all other things regardless what laws dictate. I was just stating the reasons about the laws in place in that particular situation. It is always a good thing to be aware of the laws so that like I said earlier the bad guys do not use the laws against us when our families are involved. Knowing the ins-and outs of certain laws can be a useful tool for us.

We all know parenting is not an easy job, we have to know how to juggle things around with all the situations we encounter as our kids grow up.
Come on that's why our parents always have a smile on their faces when our kids misbehave...the shoe is now on the other foot

Ken, like I said I cannot agree with you any more, that family comes first regardless of anything.

But laws can be changed, just look at the NJ Bill to try to shut down drag racing (Doug Hecker's post) it was defeated because of public outcry. Unfortunately in parts of this country privacy is held higher than personal safety and respect. Of couse though they will hold it higher until they become the victim. Hollywood mentality, "ban guns...but not the guns that my body guard has.." etc.

Remember, "a conformed conservative was a victimized liberal."

Adam, I understand all that, and I agree that the Judge was probably right in how he interpreted the law. But like you say the law was poorly written.

Well, in my mind that law and hundreds of others needn't have been written in the first place. If parents had more control over their kids and courts didn't entertain every wild-ass lawsuit brought forward, we not need laws to get around policing out kids.

Should a kid be able to sue his parents? That's a grey line. Moestation and such, yes. But for not allowing them to go to a party or other crap like that... it is up to the parent regarding where and when their child can go.

Too much invasion of the government into our personal lives!

Sure a lot of West Coast bashing on this thread, but that doesn't surprise me at all. Everyone seems to be looking for a culprit to bash these days so I'd have to guess that when push comes to shove, hey, let's dump on the "West Coast" and take the pressure off the East Coast and other "holier than thou" locations throughout the United States. Laws are laws and if not well written then I say "get involved" and demand a change. This will not happen if APATHY is prevalent though. Personaly, I'd say give it a rest, but I'm somewhat wise enough to know that will not happen, so, enjoy the bashing and let the tirade continue.......Jim :spank:

"West Coast" is often mentioned when people really mean "California", in my experience, and these same people think that California is still overflowing with hippies and love-ins

Hold the phone there!!! I live in NY,the tri state area of the city. A "blue state" as the politicians call it. I'll bet you any day of the week that NY and the states nearby hold one of the most left winged liberal thinking people. You have to remember we have the UN to deal with here. Believe me we have some of the same types of laws in place. I'm not knocking liberals, I guess in any free society it's healthy to have checks and balances and in cases as this the left and right balance each other so that regualtions, laws etc. don't ever swing to one particular side if it does, then it becomes public opinion and if needed be, a change then becomes in order. And like you have stated if people feel that moved by a particular law in their area, then it is up to them to "get involved" as you say. As some have done, in NJ (Doug Heckers thread about yuppies wanting to shut down the racetracks, even though the tracks were there for 50 years.) Stupid bill place to become a stupid law - people got involved and changed things. Yes I agree it works.

You have to admit though as I gave examples regarding the Hollywood rich and famous, facts of their actions hold my statement true. But I'll trade you Hillary Clinton :Dou: or Al Sharpton any day of the week for a west coast swap. So you see it's not just the west coast. This just happen to direct comments there because of the main topic which occured in the west coast area. Had this been a NYC incident the comments would be reversed so don't think that it's a dumping time on the west coast.

    Edit: Jim,

Think of this one. A high school banned ALL holiday songs that mention ANY and ALL religious words, meanings, or assumptions. Plus any symbols including an evergreen tree with decorative lights on it....hhmmm now they call it a "Holiday tree" even that is not aloud! Another example: Jingle Bells, cannot be played. This is to ALL religions. PLUS not only the songs, but the band which has a holiday concert every year cannot even play the music minus the lyrics. Plus they cannot play these types of songs outside the school using the School name.

They had a School Board Meeting it was packed with the mass majority of the people wanted this rule thrown out. Parents, tax payers wanted ALL religious songs played. There was only two objections. TWO! What happened the school board refused to change and continued the ban. Why??? Lawsuits. Would I get involved? You bet your butt if it was in my town! I would only hope the people in that community give that school board no rest and vote every polititian out.

Where is this place Jim....California, State of Washington, you ask? Oregon, Canada.....NO! NEW JERSEY!!! FRIGGIN NEW JERSEY!! Maplewood, New Jersey!! The east coast!! Where I was born and neighboring state! And if you want to dump on the east coast because of these stupid laws and people that pass them, well pass me a shovel and move on over.

When I read in your earlier post that you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, the light should have come on. Guess that is what I deserve by staying at the motel that says, Hey, we'll leave a light on for you.... Darn, sorta reminds me of the days at elementary school and a ruler was smacked on my hands. Didn't like it then and don't like it now. Sigh! :pp

I agree, I spent a week in upper Manhattan about 6-years ago on a company-sponsored boondoggle. I ate at a different deli every day.

Just so ya know, we get beer in the "right" pubs out her for 2.25 a bottle. how much is it in a Manhattan pub? :eek2: We even have 2 micro-breweries here in town, you can get up to 3-pints for $1.50 a piece.
