The e-brake in my 76 electra has no resistance to it what so ever. The car has 145,000 miles on it. When I pull into my sloped driveway and point towards the garage, I'll put the parking brake on and the car will roll back until it locks up into that parking pawl. When I put it into reverse the whole thing goes CHUNK, and slams out of gear. I don't want to break that parking pawl. When I back into my driveway and apply the e-brake the car never rolls forward. I adjusted the little wire underneath the car, but it didn't seem to do anything, I could go more, but then the back brakes would always be braking, wearing them out. What's the deal here?

In my Lincoln, putting the e-brake on forces you to just about break through the back of the seat, but that sucker holds the 4660 pound car right where you leave it. I have to either back in every time which is a hassle because the car has to be ALL the way over on the driveway or else no one can get out of the garage. I usually park on the street, but I don't worry about it as much when the car is in the driveway, none of the street hooligans walk by and look inside of the car.

I am having a problem with my 65 sky-top wagon on the left rear wheel, with the E-pedal all the way tight, the cable assembly tight, the wheel still slides, the right side locks up (maybe too good) that wheel runs warmer than the other 3
I took the left drum off and noticed the e-brake arm bottoming out against one of the nuts for the axle (I dont know if the nut is too big or the shoes are not adjusted enough)

    Another view

If I had a spare arm I would roll the dice and experiment by grinding a notch out of the arm so it will not bottom out on the axle nut
and see if the e-brakes will apply on the left wheel

Does the cable need to have a lot of tension on it? I can remember being able to pull it by maybe an inch or two, at the time I didn't think anything of it.

I can pull the cable by hand on that left wheel and it just bottoms out (and the wheel slides)

What I might try is remove that axle nut and bolt and see if that will allow the arm more clearance to lock the wheel
If it works then I might either notch the arm or look for the smallest "nut"
    I can find
I will post my results on Monday
