Is the parts place always high on shipping charges. They`re prices seem a little cheaper than other places but they sure made up for it on the shipping. The box of parts I ordered weighed 12 pounds and it was 44.00 to ship.According to UPS`s site it should have been about 14 bucks.Anyone else notice this?

Year One is the same way and maybe higher!

I've only ordered a couple times from them, and shipping was reasonable. What are the dimensions of your 12 lb box? I assume you plugged that info into the UPS calculator too? While some of our vendors really do get you with shipping/handling fees, it is also possible the shipping charge was miskeyed. It's happened before where I work. If you feel strongly, give them a call and ask them to confirm the rate. Maybe they made a mistake, maybe not.

I have always, always, always had very good service from The Parts Place, including shipping costs. I'd agree it would pay to double-check with them.

They have always been fair on shipping. I know Year One is crazy. They wanted 19 for 2 upper door hinges and Ground Up was cheaper and sent them for 10.

I don`t know the dimensions of the box.It shouldn`t be oversize though.I guess I`ll wait until it gets here and then call them about the shipping price.I did use the UPS calculator and the FedexGround calculator.Fedex was cheaper.I also used the farthest zip code from me incase they shipped it from another location.I`m glad other people are saying they are reasonable on shipping because that was my first and was going to be my last order from them.I`ll call to double check the shipping since I seem to be the only one that was overcharged.I`ll order from them again if it was a mistake. After I got the invoice yesterday I was thinking I`d hate to order a bumper from them.

Do you mind telling us what the order consisted of? Just trying to get a handle on possible box size. Also, is the delivery address in town? Or a rural delivery? UPS rates really jump for residential delivery, and higher yet for rural addresses. I know, 'cause we ship orders by UPS to a lot of rural addresses, and hear the complaints about rates.

    Shipping Info

    Hello,

I just looked up the order.

The box is 68" X 8" X 16" it gets billed as oversized 2 by UPS, so the weight has nothing to do with the cost of the shipping, they ordered a package tray and a trunk divider. Plus UPS's pricing online doesn't reflect there charges for fuel and handling. When we use their shipping program here it tacks $12 on that order for those extra charges. FYI: Year One on the web wants $82.26 to ship the package tray w/jute and the trunk divider w/jute. They also say to allow 1-4 weeks for the package tray and trunk divider to ship. We had your whole order in stock and shipped it out complete. Hopefully you will continue to purchase parts from us.

    Thanks,
    Shane

Shane thanks for clearing that up.I`m glad it wasn`t the weight.I had no idea it would be oversized.I was going by UPS`s website that said it wasn`t oversized unless the girth exceeded 130" and 165" girth was over the limit.Length plus 2 times the width and height 68+16+32=116".I`ll try ordering again but is there a way to call and get a shipping quote before placing the order?I plan on ordering front and rear bumpers next and would like to get a quote first.I know I`ve sent them before for around 60.00.This post wasn`t intended to put down the parts place I just thought shipping was a little overboard. Thanks,

For Skylark bumpers we like to use a freight company to ship it cost less and they get there (usually, there are exceptions) the same way they left here. UPS beats the heck out of them and if you are sending two at a time it saves a little money. A fair quote would be a bout $80 to a business and $120 to a residence. Take into account that when we send them back they are packaged up to unsure their saftey and the add packing boosts the cost. The way we package it for your bumpers to ship out UPS it would be about $80 a bumper and still have a huge risk of arriving damaged. The Skylark bumpers are huge, a Chevelle bumper ships for about $40 UPS. We use to bumper boxes pieced together to box Skylark bumpers. Truck is the best way for your bumpers to ship. You can just lightly bubble wrap them to get them in here to keep your cost down.

    Thanks

    http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/glossary/index.html

Here is what it says on UPS's website:

Oversize: The designation for larger packages that you ship via UPS Ground and UPS Standard to Canada that meet one of the following specifications for billing purposes:

Oversize 1 (OS1): a package with a combined length and girth that exceeds 84 inches, and combined length and girth is equal to or less than 108 inches, and actual weight is less than 30 pounds. For each OS1 package, the billable weight is 30 pounds.
Oversize 2 (OS2): a package with a combined length and girth that exceeds 108 inches, and actual weight is less than 70 pounds. For each OS2 package, the billable weight is 70 pounds.
Oversize 3 (OS3): a UPS Ground package with a combined length and girth that exceeds 130 inches, and combined length and girth equal to or less than 165 inches, and actual weight less than 90 pounds. For each OS3 package, the billable weight is 90 pounds. A Large Package Surcharge will be applied.
Oversize 3 (OS3) Canada: a UPS Standard to Canada package with a combined length and girth that exceeds 130 inches, and combined length and girth equal to or less than 165 inches, and actual weight less than 150 pounds. For each UPS Standard To Canada OS3 package, the billable weight is 150 pounds.

Just so everyone is up to date on UPS rules. They change them every time we get a bill, along with their rates and extra charges.

    Thanks again

I've ship bumpers Fed-X ground. Just wrap the thing in bubble wrap. I've sent them from Wisconsin to Texas for $28.00:TU: UPS lost my business long ago. If the package is smaller I use USPO P1. A inner finder form RI to WI, $25.00, USPO P1.

    Just FYI,

Have to agree with John on this one....UPS is the worst and when you have a problem they make you feel it was all your fault.

I shipped over 300+ packages in the last 2 years by FedEx and never had one damaged or lost....including shipping bumpers to Tri-City Plating in TN.

Always cheapest to ship to a business....I am sure you know someone in your neighborhood who will accept packages for you.
