Hi all, I'm getting ready to mount the right hand mirror on my car but I need to know where to drill the holes for the mounting bracket. If anyone can help with the measurements and/or pictures I would appreciate it. Thanks, Harry
Hey Harry, I was going to take this project on this coming weekend and what i was going to do is take the measurements from the drivers side and aligned it on the opposite side. tape it down first before i drill anything and see if it looks right. But if anybody else has good suggestions i would love to hear them
The tough part about this is that there aren't many hard lines to measure from. Just took a pic and made some quick edits to it (hey if anyone knows how to get a perfectly straight line in GIMP I would be interested!!LOL). Anyway, if you measure from the center of the front screw to the edge of the bend at the top of the door, it is 1.5", from the front straight back and level I get about 10.5". That should get you in the ballpark. Do the front one first and the back one can be set using the gasket after you get the tilt etc just right. Also, its more work but don't screw it right to the door. Make a plate that goes on the inside, make sure it is shaped to the door contour as well. That way the screws can go through and the whole plate will support the weight of the mirror. This will also allow you to use a slightly larger hole in the door itself so you can move the mirror slightly if you have to. You can just have the screws go through the plate, or use bolts and nuts. I transferred the measurements over to my replacement door, so they should be close. later Tim
Mirror install While your sending one template off could you make that two, and send me one? Thanks Mark
i would defintatly need the template too. a picture should be posted in teh "FAQ" section that is printable. would be slick :TU:
how i made a template to mount passenger side mirror When i mounted my mirror i made a reversible template from the drives side door by taping a large sheet of paper across the upper portion of the door. I then felt for where the mounting holes where and punched them out. I also used a razor to trim the paper to the same shape as the upper portion of the door. Then I measured from the front of the door to where both holes ware and from the top of the door down to the holes and wrote these down as a guide. Next i removed the paper from the door and layed it on the passenger door with the side that was facing up now facing down. I carefully positioned the paper so it conformed to the shape of the door and then taped it to the door. I penciled the marks on the door and then measured with a tape measure using the measurements that I had wrote down to verify everything was correct. Once satisfied i drilled the holes and mounted the mirror. everything looked good, perfectly even. Allen Allioop108@aol.com
