Has anyone else done this swap on a motor and gotten back-to-back results at the track? The 2bbl I am putting in my car ran a best of 16.2 @ 86 MPH in my brohter's 72 skylark with a TH350, stock stall, 2.56 open rear on Dunlop P245 radials. It couldn't 60' to save its life, it was still spinning the pass. tire well past the 60' mark. I am putting this motor into my '71 skylark, which will have a TH350 with stock stall, and has a 12 bolt axle with 4.10 gears and posi, with BFGoodrich P275-60-15 drag radials. In my spare parts bin, I have a '72 Q-jet and Poston S-divider manifold that I'm going to bolt on. Does anyone have any guesses as to what this thing might do in the 1/4 mile? I'm hoping for a 60' around 2.0, and a 1/4 time in the mid-high 14's around 92-93 MPH.
The motor, other than adding the 4bbl intake and q-jet, is completely stock. It's a '72 motor, so that means 8.5:1 compression.
Kenny - Well, it's going to be an oddball of sorts exhaust. I'm using stock manifolds for now, but I still have the big block exhaust on the car.... It's the GSCA 3" system with an x-pipe and Straightline Performance Large Case Mufflers. When my car previously had a 350, I had the Summit (made by borla) stainless 2.25" dual system. It looked good but the mufflers had a raspy sound to them. I figure my 3" setup will kill some low end TQ but with the 4.10 gears I'm not toooo worried. Everyone - Have any of you run a higher stall torque converter with a stock-cammed 350?
My stock '71 GS w/350 4bbl runs 15.2 to 15.3 at 90mph with 225/70-14s. 60' is 2.3. Traction is the limiting factor. You gotta avoid wheel spin to get a decent ET. I have an open rear, am wanting to upgrade to a posi. I have also switched to bigger tires, 245/60-15's. I'm convinced I can get easily into the 14's if I could get it to hook. With drag radials and a 4:10 rear you should have no problems running mid 14's, maybe better.
