Hello. About how much power will a .038 over 455 with level 1 ported TA stage 2 heads and a 413 cam with TA's spherical dished pistons zero decked make with a performer intake vs the spx? Thanks

You would pick up 30ish hp on that setup

Where do you shift at and what gears/converter do you have? Any track times? Sounds like you should be shifting at 5500+ with that setup. SPX probably is looking to get up to 6000 to be of any use and your cam won't be making peak power that high. On a car running high 11's with slightly less than your engine I picked up .1 sec and 1 mph with a SP1 over a B4B and 1" spacer. The SP1 has a much broader torque curve because of the longer runners compared to the SPX.

I would recommend an sp1 to just about anyone over a performer. Our motors make enough bottom end if shouksbt matter if everything else is right

I currently have 2.93 gears and 2500 stall but I am looking at getting some 3.42's. Probably shift around 5600 to 5800. Still waiting on the machine shop to finish up the block so I can get it all together and back on the road. I'll be going from the original 400 to this and can't wait to see how it runs. I already have the performer from the 400 and was thinking about using it to keep the gs air cleaner on it but not if it was going to cost a lot of power.

Even with that conservative rpm,..you'll leaving a healthy chunk of power on the table with the performer

Split the difference and get the SP1. Like Ben said, the BBB makes so much torque down low that you will never miss whatever you lose. I went from a Performer to the SP1 and honestly, I couldn't tell the difference on the street, but I certainly could at the track. Reduced ET and increased trap speed. When JimWeise built Alan Wander's motor, he tested both intakes and the difference was close to 50 HP if I remember correctly.

If you do go for the single plane intake, get the one with the Q-jet opening. You can run a Holley on it easily. That is what I do. If you get the Holley opening, and you want to run a Q-jet, you will need a thick adapter or you will have to clearance the opening for the secondary throttle blades. The Q-jet opening is much more versatile.

Wow 50 hp is a lot. Thanks everybody for your advice. Sp1 it is.

I just talked to Alan to refresh my memory. He wasn't sure, but he remembers it was either low 40's or high 40's, still a substantial amount of HP, enough to make him ditch the B4B he initially intended to run. I was able to find his dyno sheet with a search,

This is with TA Stage1SE's, TA290-08H cam, SP1, and Holley 1000HP.
