Remember the Hemi vs. Stage 1 race? The one that pit Roy Badie with Richard Lasseter? In some ways, that was the prototype of the Pure Stock races. After that and subsequent shootouts, we also had the Supercar Showdown and Muscle Car Nationals and, after a respite from the bursted bubble, Bob and Dan came up with the PSMDR. The Hemi vs. Stage 1 race also was the follow-up to Car Review magazines 50 Fastest Muscle Car article, which outraged the Mopar folks to no end due to the placement of the Stage 1 ahead of any Hemi build from 1966-71. Buick guys can thank the article for giving Buicks more visibility, and they can thank Richard Lasseter for backing it up. Well, I tracked down both racers and chatted with them, 30 years later. I believe it was the same buick running the black cuda.. wasn't it??? Someone should of taken target practice at whoevers remote control airplane that was!!! Very annoying to watch and listen...
