That sure is a sweet lookin engine!:Brow: Just think of all the potential them buick 455's carry!:3gears: -Cody
Red........mmmmmmmmmmmmm ! Hey Thanks guys ! Hope it runs as good as it looks . Sammy Hagar said it best........ Red , Red There's no substitute for red :Brow: Probably can't tell but 99 % of the exterior bolts are Allen Head Bolts painted in Opposing black/red . I used Stove Bright Charcoal for the "cast look" on the manifolds . Hogged out the ports and polished and set the cam for 4* Advanced, hope I don't regret that move. The engine is basically stock I'll put a stronger ignition system in it , bump the timing up a bit and calibrate the carb. using Doug Roes' book . Steve.
Where did you get the lower alternator bracket, I am in desperate need for one like that but have no luck finding one!
The Bomb....... Thanks guys .. I had to build 2 shims to fit behind the Alt. Braket and used 4 "jamb" nuts behind the W/P pully to line up the belts . The bracket came with one of my engines . Sorry I can't help more than that . I understand they're as rare as hens' teeth . Steve
I like the black bolts. I painted everything RED and then went in after and changed all the bolts to stainless- it gives it a nice clean look.
455's Lookin Up.. Thanks Johnno , I like detailing stuff , adding that personal touch . Using the Allen Head Phosphate Bolts was a breeze when it came to painting . I've got a set of 3/8" drive allen drivers , just stuck the bolts/washers on one and gave it a few "spritz" with either red or black depending where they went . I'm hoping to get a Red Powdercoated 1 wire Alternator from Summit . For the most part the engine exterior is all allen head cept' for the oil pan (bright stainless) , and a few hex heads up front and the intake . I'll be putting allen head in the pan and intake before it goes into its' new home . So far it's been about $50.00 for it all , figure about $70.00 . But it looks cool so why not ??????? You did your in Stainless , eh ? Got some pics to post ? I'll probably start on the chassis soon . Well see how that goes. Steve
alternator bracket I think they are from non ac cars.I bought a 70 parts car a couple years back it had one on it,motor was a 350.
Hey, most of us didn't start with a Detailed Engine !! Mine was a Grease Bomb ! It took a couple of weeks and a dozen trips to the hardware store before it came out the way it is . It's still not done ..........BUT,,,, ARE THEY EVER REALLY DONE ?????? Dedication , Imagination, attention to details will take you a long ways . Patience Grasshopper!! You've got a great base to build upon . I LOVE that Air Cleaner housing ,is that the "Starwars Air Cleaner I've heard about ? Steve
Yes it is the legendary Star Wars air cleaner jedi master steve. Infact my major goal with this car is to make the engine and compartment look like it just rolled of the showroom floor. You all are inspiration to me, I went outside with some wd40, 409 and a brush after sieng your pics. Im gonna wait for it to need a rebuild before I take it out to paint it. -Phill
