Its been asked several times, so here it is. I want to do a rebuild with pics to walk anyone through it, but you know how time goes. So here is my pics of the Q-Jet that normally sits on my Regal engine (when it has an engine).

Pic number one. Check out arrow. The 1971 Q-jet has no place for the choke pull off necessary for this eighties choke set-up. My solution is to weld it to a washer, than secure it with the carb mounting bolt. Don't weld? Just make an adapter bracket out of some steel thicker than sheetmetal. Template to put it in the right place? Use the choke donor carb. Its a snap!

OK, heres the big stuff. The throttle shafts are out of the choke donor carb. (I recommend computer Q-jets for this. Dirt cheap and usually low-mileage) The throttle shafts are longer and needed for the new choke mechanism. I suppose you could try switching the whole bases, but the circuits seem quite different, so I chose not to. Anyway, look at the Pink arrow. See the washers? The Choke donor carb has a raised "sleeve" here that the older divorced choke carbs do not have. So you need to make your own. I don't recommend washers since they are tall and will interfere with one of the linkages. You'll see what I mean if you get this far. A bend will cure the linkage, but the best way is to find something a little smaller to space it. I simply had nothing better when I did this one.

See the green arrow? This will bottom out when you tighten the new choke body to the old carb, and will not swing anymore. Simply stick any tiny piece of junk between these two parts when you join them. These a juck tiny screw-head in this one! Space accordingly cause two much space can thought things off. Matter-of-fact, I think my LeSabre has a crumbled tiny ball of aluminum foli in it!!

Now I can't account for thing like wore-out throttle shafts and bushings, so use your head. If the bushings are warn, call Osbournes for correct stuff. But you can make a great carb if you starting points are good donors.

I hope this helps. Remember..I'm a Dummy and I did it!!! Good luck!!!

im gonna try that tomorrow! i have a carb off a 1980 cadillac and have no use for it. Is there anyway i can use the throttle stop pod off the cadillac?

Now when i wire up the choke do i just set it up to where it comes on when the key is in the ON position?
