pinion angle

    hey guys im working on an 83 regal and i was wondering what you guys set your pinion angle at? thanks

    I think you want a one to three degree working angle (pinion nose down).

    You need it a little bit down so that the joint comes closer to zero when all the compliance (slop) is taken up in the suspension bushings.

    Plus, if you set it to zero then the bearing cups do not rotate with respect to the pinion cross shaft and they will "brinell" (ie, indent) the cups.

    There is a topic from a while that I was involved with (it was talking about my cal-tracs). I got referred to an article on the car craft website that was very helpful. Go to http://www.carcraft.com/howto/91758/index.html and look through this and the related links. I haven't adjusted or checked my pinion angle yet, but I feel that I have a really good understanding of this after reading these articles.
