I recently found out that Diamond Pistons will make you ANY kind of piston you want. I called them recently for a set to my '66 Nailhead and they gave me a ballpark figure of $600. A little steep, but worth it in my case. My car sucks for finding parts.

    Rex,

Try Egge ( www.egge.com ) for 425 pistons. I recenty got a set of cast .030" over Egge 425 pistons for $325 from a Buick provider. It may be even cheaper to go directly through them.

I have heard from a few sources that Egge's Nailhead pistons have the wrist pin located at an incorrect height compared to OE pistons.
I've never compared them myself...just passing it along.

    Phill,

The Egge pistons have the same compression height as the OE piston. I did happen to check them against the original pistons before they were sent to be installed on the rods at the machine shop. The dome is also the same. I think some of the rumors are from people that bought sets of 425 pistons when production stopped at a high price, and now have to compete with pistons that are in production. Anyway, I was less impressed with the 425 Egge piston detail compared to the 401 Badger pistons that are also here. There was a lot of casting flash in the oil ringland area that should have been removed before it left the factory. But, all in all, I am happy with the fit and price.

I used a set of the badger pistons in my nailhead project last year. They cost me $425 but worked out great. The guy at the shop (He builds a lot of nailheads) said that sometimes the wrist pins are located a little differrently to correct the compression. I think that is what he said, anyway, my nailhead now has 3500 miles on a .060" over 401 and is doing great. It can chunk tires and keep up with anything in my neighborhood. You should have seen the smiles and thumbs up when I lit em up behind the Long Beach Hot Rod swap meet this weekend. I find that people just love old cars and didn't notice it was a Buick. Don't worry I tell them anyway.
