We need a pit free 8.2 rear end cover which should be the same from 64-70 for skylarks and specials except those made in Canada. Perhaps a car that was once undercoated would be the best candidate. The next best donor would be fronm a southwest car. Perhaps someone has removed one in favor of an upgrade like a TA cover. Group 5.398 GM #9777035
Bill I would love to have that one if it is the right one but from the pic it does look strange. Are you sure that is for a skylark? I think they are all the same for 64 -70 skylarks.
Good eyes guys....it was in an A-body box of parts but it is for a 66 Wildcat. Sorry about that....the search continues. Peace WildBill
Well, I checked my stash. I have one but it does not meet the "JIM LORE STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE" criteria! So............I can not help you out! ou:
George We are trying to do a concours job to be judged this year. I have one with the pits but they are too deep even after sandblasting. I do appreciate your efforts nonetheless. We are trying to pass the caiibrated eyesballs of Heckman/Conely on the first time out without a deduction. It is a feat heretofore that has never been done because as I like to say, "You do not know what you do not know."
Ok, understand. I think the one you need will have to come from a garage-kept car or a NOS cover. I have never seen one here in the local yards that will me your criteria! Oh well, never hurts to look while I am in the yards.
Undercoating is one way and some light pitting could be dealth with. What do you think about this one? http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?p=720763#post720763
I believe there is a number. I can not see one on Walt's cover but I bet if he uses a wire brush, he will find it. The ones I have seen have been on the driver's side, about the 9 o'clock position with the numbers written perpendicular to the driver's axle tube. I will check on the one under the 70 convertible I have and try to take a pic of it on Sunday!
Jim I have a couple and one of them is in pretty darn good shape.. i will post pics for you tomorrow.
Jim I ran the nicest cover i have through the parts washer and then hit it with a brass wire wheel and i dont think it's nice enough for what you are needing. Bob
