I got tired of the all polished look and wanted black centers. To go back to Buick Rally wheels will cost me 1K+. I heard some good things about plasti-dip, so this appeared to be an inexpensive temporary solution.

The process took about 4 5 hours, cleaning, taping & spraying.

I applied approximately 4 wet coats a couple minutes apart and removed the tape immediately afterwards. If it dries it with the tape on it will produce a ragged edge when the tape is removed.

The washers behind the lugs need to be held in place while tightening otherwise if they twist it will remove the finish from the wheel.

I had my doubts about the longevity of the finish but it seems to be holding up well. Its been on the car for 2+ months now with no signs of peeling. To clean the wheels I use lots of soapy water with a micro fiber towel to clean the surface. To dry the centers, I just dab the centers with a clean dry towel to remove the water. I am afraid if I apply any pressure on the dry surface it will tear the finish from the wheel.

This appears to be a good temporary solution; I have heard that it may last up to a year.

I like it! I bought a few cans to do the same on some aftermarket wheels on my truck but sold them before evening doing it. Kinda wish I would've done it and kept them.

    I like it.
I might do that to my prostar weld wheels.

Your onto something there, looks pretty good to me.

Since your not sure of the durability on your rims, couldn't you spray the same product on a test piece of something to
play around with to see what the limits are?

    Tony,
I watched a boat load of videos on this product before applying. The consensus is, the durability grows as the product cures with age.

Me, I don't believe it until I see it. My confidence was shaken when I was torquing the lugs on one of my wheels. I apparently let one of the washers slip as I applied torque which twisted the plasti-dip right off. Kinda a bummer after spending hours prepping the wheels. I am glad I also sprayed my spare otherwise I would have not repeated the process.

    Regards
    Jim

That looks really good and you still have the lighter weight wheels, just less work!
