Yeah, posting this thread is a little like the tree hugger who lives in a wood house.:Smarty:

I just spent an hour deleting 75 threads I have started over the past year and a half. They were mostly in parts wanted, parts for sale, and general stupid questions and bull crap with less than 10 -15 replies, which were also rather useless.

I hope it helps free up bandwidth for the site.

If you notice you have threads that are obsolete and want to delete them but need help, let me know and I will share how I deleted mine CORRECTLY and timely!

Don't just go trashing everything:af: PLEASE RESPECT THE THREAD YOU STARTED. YOU MAY NOT NEED THE INFO ANYMORE, BUT, IF IT CONTAINS A LOT OF USEFUL REPLIES, DON'T DELETE IT! It is likely other folks will referrence it over time.

I suppose this thread has a short life span as well:TU:

I just did the same, removed my old parts wanted, for sale or posts that went unanswered. Took out about 60 posts and my post count went down by 100...

Do some house cleaning but make sure there is nothing useful in the thread before you delete it.

The fastest way I figured out was this:

If someone has additional tips, feel free to post here.

Maybe this will get a sticky to encourage other users, especially new users to "Keep it Clean around here":TU:

    Here we go:

    1) find any post by you and click on your avatar and select [view user profile].

    2) click on [find all threads started by this user].

This next set of steps is what takes some time depending upon how many you want to delete, but follow the time savers I list and it goes by quicker.

    3) CAREFULLY review your threads and determine if there are any that are completely useless. Choose the first one in your listing and select it.

    4) Review it again to be sure there is no useful information. Remember, there may information that is not useful to you anymore, but could be to someone else, so BE SUBJECTIVE here. Once you decide to delete, select [thread tools] and select the pop down option under it for [delete thread.]

    5) Another dialog box opens and asks why you want to delete. I just typed in "to save bandwidth, thread has run it's sucessful course, thanks."

HERE IS A TIME SAVER TIP: copy that text (hi-lite the words and copy either [control V] or right click and copy) as to paste it in this box for the rest of the deletions to save typing time.

    6) press [delete thread].

    TIME SAVING TIP:

    7) using your web browser arrows [ < > ], browse back 3 pages to the screan that has the list of your threads. You will still see the thread you just deleted , but , that is ok, (it is the old page)

    8) now select the next thread you wnat to delete and repeat these steps as desired.

    9) when you are done, repeat the first step by getting to the find the threads by this user and check to see that you did it !!

    I hope this helps. MarkO

I appreciate the thought here, but the reality is that when regular users delete their posts, they just disapear from viewing.. they are still in the database, either I or moderator can restore them.. so there is no net gain or loss in trasmitted data.

But you are "cleaning up" the viewable thread or catagory page.. so that is good.

Threads that are just text are not a real big bandwith issue.. picture posts are, but much less of an issue now, that we have thumbnailed the pictures.

    Thanks

    JW
