Jeez' Curtis...you are a prince for working so hard on this when you have your own concerns. Hope your Mom is ok, too.
First day of school! It was awesome to find out that Andrew and Paul are in the same class again! And they're at the same table! They both had a good first day. Despite some balance issues and having to wear a knee support Andrew is in good spirits and holding his own
Andrews mother posted today... "There have been many days when I worry that Andrew won't have another first day of school. I'm so blessed that he is strong enough to continue school while undergoing treatment. Here is to hoping for a fantastic year. No mother should have to worry about such a thing. Breaks my heart. Here is a picture of Paul and Andrew this morning on the first day of 1st grade. He is a strong little man and we know he can beat this and will have a fantastic year! "
Thanks Frank, least I could do. My mom passed on July 6th. She had a 2 year fight with ALS. She had to get a feeding tube, as her muscles for swallowing had failed along with just about every other muscle in her body. She could not walk, talk, use her arms or hands etc My dad was her sole care giver, he felt no one else could do it like he could. He had an electric lift to get her in and out of bed/wheelchair. He'd wash/shower her, take her to the bathroom, hair and make up and feed her.. he lived two whole lives. Imagine getting up 2-3 times a night for 2 years... I cant even.... To say he is a great role model is an understatement. The joys of my moms life started to not outweigh what she was feeling. She was a medical auditor before she retied, so she knew what was coming. She decided on June 27 to go to palliative care and stop feeding via the tube. A decision I always said I would make for myself, but after seeing my mom do it Im not sure I could.. Huge decision. It took 8 more days in hospital, in and out of consiousness. My dad and I never left. But on the 8th day, I went home for a break in the morning, I cut the grass at their house, something mindless. I went back to the hospital that afternoon and she passed that evening. It was a rough 8 days but her last few minutes were peaceful with my dad, myself and my wife and some family by her side. She was burried on her birthday, July 10. And as an update, her headstone was installed today... Its a very nice stone, exactly as she wanted... so Ive been a bit sad today.

An update for today... Today is Andrews 7th birthday. Here's a post written by his mother on the 'Andrew's Army' facebook page ------ Today is Andrew's 7th birthday. Unlike most kids who are out playing enjoying being 1 year older my little guy is here at the Clinic in Mexico waiting to have 100ml of blood drawn which will be used to create immunotherapy to be given to him 1 week from today. The blood draw will make him so tired that we will spend the rest of the day resting. Here's how I look at today. It's a gift from God. At age 2 1/2 they told me Andrew wouldn't see age 3. As difficult as it is spending his 7th birthday here doing this - he's having a 7th birthday and there are so many DIPG children who have not. Thank you all for your continued support. Please keep spreading his story and encouraging others to both spread his story and donate to help us see another birthday. ---- Attaching a picture too Thank you all for your generosity! And the thoughts and prayers...
