PLEASE no more demo derby adds here, we all look for parts, and cant take when we miss out on parts that went to demo. A GS guy would be horified if a GS went to demo derby. So please no more demo derby adds, all who feel the same please post up, and offer it as a parts car not demo derby. cg

    what are you talking about?

    a. i don't see any adds for a 'derby car' on the front page of the 'Cars for sale' forum and that goes back 4 days.

    b. if someone IS offering a 'derby car' then this is the last chance to save it, is it not? i would think i ought to be sending everbody over to derbygear.com every day to keep some old 70s boatmobile from getting destroyed ... and this is the first time i've even mentioned that website here. :Do No:

I had my car in a car show last summer and this joker walked up to me with a grin and said "I saw an old Riv like this one in a smash up derby last summer".... :af: I was seathing inside, but would not give the a**h*** the satisfaction of letting him know he struck a nerve..........as he passed by my car to galk at a chebbele. I could have been thrown out of that place sooooooo easily.....and possibly arrested if I would have not just kept my cool. I wanted to smash his wise face.

    Postin' Up

I'm not going to hide the fact that my brother and I have sent a few Buick's to the derby arena. But I'll also state that whenever a big car comes in, I tell him to hold off tearing it down for a couple of days until I can take a look and see if anybody here would be interested in what, if any, good parts are left.

If it would help soothe the pain for any/all big car guys, you can pm me your email address and I will take pix of any items your interested in, if it's not already broken or not available on the car.

This should also ease some minds to know that no Buick motors are used in the cars for the derby.

    Thanks,

    P.D.

P.S. No, my brother and I aren't Redneck, one-tooth, inbred, hillbilly's, so I'll put an end to that before it even starts.

No offense to hillbilly's, Burns  :beer.

    Kimson,

That's been on there for about a month. I was going to call, but never got around to it. I'll probably call today or the 31st.

BTW I think he is referring to THIS thread.

I just called Alan. Very nice guy, very honest. He said the Riviera was his friend's who is a "butthead" because he says he will sell it but when the deal comes he can't make up his mind to keep or sell it. It had sat for 15 years in his friends property. His friend for whatever reason removed all the weatherstripping before he let it sit. Why I don't know and neither does Alan. So Alan assumes there will be rust in the floors and trunk pan but he said" I'd be lying to you if I said there was rust, or if there wasn't. He isn't sure. The friend doesn't seem to want to sell it, but Alan said he will talk to him again.

Alan told me about a 1970 Cadilac Coupe Deville he has for sale. Overall it is straight and solid. There was one patch panel installed a while back on a fender because it began rusting and another new patch is needed again. The rust is one spot on the right quarter panel above the skirt. It's about the size of a half dollar. The vinyl top is gone but the padding is still there, kinda deteriorated though so that would need to be replaced. 90,000 miles. Is a running, driving car. He takes it out every month and drives it to keep it operational. The paint is faded and would need a repaint in the future. All trim is there. Has cruise, tilt, telescopic, wheel. All windows work. It needs a clutch for the compressor on the A/C. Has working climate control. Hi-comp 472cid, factory posi, $1500, 375hp, factory load leveling, no cracks in glass., newer back tires.

He also had a 1968 Caddy covt, factory buckets, 1968 was last year for bucket seats. This is one of 262 cars with bucket seats that year. That is the only reason hes keeping the car. He also has a rusted dodge dart. Im getting pictures of the 1970 Cadillac and will post them. I will ask to see if he can look at the Riviera and maybe get a few pictures of that too.

BTW I think he is referring to THIS thread.

well then, he's over-reacting just a wee bit.

that guy never offered his car for sale.

and i guarantee you that if a buick guy is selling his car for $50 it's because that car is junk.

and derby guys aren't interested in A body or X body cars (they might get used but they are far from preferred). it's the B/C body cars and wagons that are getting chewed up something fierce at the demo events. there are probably more GS's going straight into the crusher at the scrap yard than there are going to the derby first.

take my 71 electra (and no, i'm not using the electra for a derby car). before i ever got it the outer shell of the roof was so rotted that the top sheet was held on by, perhaps, 6 inches of metal total all the way around the perimeter of the roof. while towing it down the highway the front of the roof was being pulled up almost a foot into the air. we cut it off and pop rivetted a piece of sheet metal on. the floor of the trunk was so rotted that you looked straight down on the gas tank. all the floor boards were gone, partly because the side windows were out. the interior was trash. every single major body panel on the car was bondo-ed (i know because i wire brushed all the old paint off). the left front frame horn was broken on the inside at the power steering bracket. etc, ad nauseam.

you aren't going to do anything streetable with a car like that.

I guess now isn't the best time to mention that the only demolition derby I ever went to, was "won" by a '70 Skylark! Of course, there wasn't much left after he won. :Dou:

I have no problem with the derby guys. In fact, I have a deal with one of them. EVERY Buick he gets in, I get a call before anyone else. I make a deal to show up and have a look with some cash, and I leave with a truck load of parts every time ! As far as the Buicks being offered to the derby guys being "junk" or "too far gone", not true. 73-76 models are the choice ones. Any GM wagon with a leaf spring rear = BIG money. And my local doesn't want any rust. But when it is ready to hit the ring, there isn't any trim or anything left on it. Basic body and frame left is all. Motor, trans, rear, all useless. I gotta say though, there is a specific year and model Buick that the guys here want. They are calling them wagon killers, and they are TOUGHHHHHHHHH.

I was at a claimer-car race and watched 2 G-body wagons, one a 79 Century with a badly needed grill go down in flames. Least respected of the least respected cars the Century may be, but I actually had to walk out.
