kind of ignorant when it comes spark plugs. no idea what heat range or what gap i should be using with a combo like this?

    70 SP 350
stock bottom end, rebuilt by last owner. (can't have more than 50k on it, and that's assuming he drove the hell out of this car)
new cam, .469/.469 at the valve 268/268 dur, 218@.050".
'78 or '79 heads, so the compression is down to about 10:1.
did these motors come with steel shim head gaskets? if so, the composite gaskets will knock down the CR a bit more.
headers, 2.5" exhaust. stock intake & carb

also, is there any point in getting 'fancy' plugs? i.e. are those with multiple electrodes or special materials actually worth the extra cash? personally i can't see shelling out 40-50 bucks for a set of plugs.

    oh, and the igniton, duh.

it's a stock distributor with a pertronix module, new accel cap and rotor, 8mm spiral core wires and a summit coil.

I'm running plain 'ole Autolite plugs.

The fancier plugs may be better, but I doubt they are worth the price.

While Im new to the v8 buicks, Ive always had good luck with regular old plugs. I prefered NGKs in my GNs, but now that Im with the Lark Im running Autolites. Plugs are plugs for the most part. Bells whistles, fancy packeging are all nice, but ive yet to hear someone jump up and down about a $5 spark plug over a regular no frills plug.

    Just my opinion though.

    David,

I have a very similar engine in my regal. Have you run your lark at the track? Any idea on what kind of power your getting? Just curious.

havn't ever been to the strip with it. with the new cam and misc new parts, this motor hasn't even run yet, which is why i'm looking for which plugs to go with. if nothing else, i'll grab some cheap autolites and check them after a little bit to see if they look good.

i've got a 200r4 and a 3.42 posi in the back. i would guess i'd do close to a 14 flat, maybe? that would be my goal, as i know it would take more work to break into 13's. i'll take it to the local 1/8th soon, as there isn't a 1/4 mile track very close to here.

Same here. I found that Advance / Discount Auto Parts had Autolite in Non Resistor type. They are working very well and the price was right.

I remember when Splitfires came out. They were so cheaply made that the insulators weren't even ribbed! I couldn't believe the price either: 6 bucks each! All for that "split Tounge" grounding electrode. Unbelievable. never bought them, but have tried Bosch Platinums and AC's Rapid Fires.
heck, at least the AC's look cool!

i was told buy a friend that they sell the high end plugs at carlisle (a swap meet) brand new for $1 or less and the auto lites are .10 cents a piece, Ill probably pick up two sets of the high end plugs and a set of autos, check your local swap meets they sell stuff cheap:Brow:

I use autolites in my car... no problems relating to them, with the stock 350 I never saw the point of spending much on sparkplugs.
