I actually wrote to Dorgan, my State Senator about replacing the income tax with an import tax. You should see the letter he wrote back. Seems he gave a speech entitled "Jobs in America" about outsourcing, and used Huffy bicycles as an example. Huffy tied the can to 1,800 American workers who got $11.00 an hour, so they could build in China, where their workforce puts in 13-1/2 to 15 hour shifts. 7am to 11 pm, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. 93 hours a week, no overtime pay, and they get between 25 and 41 cents an hour. In 1999, the Chinese workers in the delivery section went on strike, and were immediatly fired.

Senator Dorgan also says he knows of other Chinese operations where 12-year-olds work 12 hours a day for 12 cents an hour. (my comment- is that the 12/12/12 plan?)

Dorgan says that he understands the last duties of the American Huffy workforce before they went to the unemployment line was to PEEL THE AMERICAN FLAG DECALS OFF THE BIKES, AND REPLACE THEM WITH A DECAL THAT HAD A PICTURE OF A GLOBE.

This is all in the Congressional Record for the 108th Congress, First Session, Tuesday November 4, 2003. I'll send a copy of his speech to anyone who asks for it.

Yeah, I want a crankshaft or rods that were made by a 12-year-old who gets beaten if he doesn't produce enough. And 12 cents an hour is plenty generous, after all, look at all the hours he gets to work! I think ten dollars a week is more than a kid like that could spend. After all, he works all day every day. Added bonus: No teenage crime, and he can't go to school to learn how to better himself!

It's about one step away from slavery. It absoulutely is economic slavery. Our dollars support that business ethic, if we buy from Communist China, or other similar anti-Union, no-right-to-free-speech nation.

Oh, by the way, Dr. Gregory Mankiw, Chairman, Council of Economic Advisers for the Executive Office of the President is trying to implement changes so that FLIPPING BURGERS is re-classified as "Manufacturing." Bush can claim a bunch of manufacturing jobs have been created. A DELIGHTFUL, WONDERFUL response from Congressman Dingell is at:

Bill Clinton gave Most Favored Nation trading status in light of the Chinese' abominable human rights record, so that hopefully conditions would improve.

    Thanks for sharing

Thanks for sharing that letter. Several years ago I bought the wife and I top-of-the-line Trek bikes because they were made in the USA. Now the newest ones are Chinese produced already with a sticker that says "Proudly designed in the USA". Once again we see another sign of the big sell out. The Chinese are still Communists and the Communists are still the biggest threat to the USA. Period!

Ever read some of Representative Jim Trafficant's one minute speaches to Congress? The Fed's have him in jail now. What a laugh.

The man was ahead of his time. Here is one from July 20, 2000. He says:

"Mr. Speaker, a study finally admits, and I quote, "America's borders are so wide open, terrorists could easily smuggle a nuclear bomb across both our borders." Think about it, 3 million illegal immigrants, heroin and cocaine by the tons, and now a report that further says it is so bad in some areas orange cones are used like scarecrows with no border patrol presence at all.

Unbelievable. We have soldiers vaccinating dogs in Haiti, while terrorists can bring nukes across our border. Beam me up here. Who master-minded this policy? The Proctologist Association on North America?

Mr. Speaker, I yield back a disaster waiting to happen on the borders of the United States of America with a Congress sleeping at the switch."

Of course we now know the terrorists were already among us and chose Boeings as bombs. I say throw the rest of those bums out of office an set this guy free!

My new red, white and blue K2 "Patriot" race skis are made in China. Used to be hand made by two guys named Bob and Larry in Washington. Another industry that no longer exist in the USA. What really ticks me off is they are the best design they have ever done. Wish I could say they are a piece of crap but they are not. Guy that owns K2 is big time rich.

    imports & national security

schurkey, bob, and brian, thank you all for posting these. since this is a fresh thread, i want to make an important point about imports which i havent seen posted yet.

when we buy imported cars and such it hurts america in this way. we make those countries rich and powerful and while we may have peace and trust them today, who's to say what will happen in five, ten, twenty years from now ? they may be overthrown or voted out, and a madman comes in and has a nuclear missile he can fire at the US, or they very well might sell their weapons or technology to some other nation who will attack us. maybe terrorists will just steal the weapons, or they get sold by some scientist like what happened in pakistan recently. some may think its ok to trust a certain nation now, but what about the future ? should we put our kids and grandkids at that risk to save a few bucks on a car or tv ?

in times of war, we can count on noone but ourselves.

the ability to manufacture our own tanks and battleships is crucial to national security. if there is another pearl harbor, we wont have time to restart the steel industry. if we keep those nations poor, they wont have the nukes, or conventional forces. nothing personal against those countries, just thinking ahead, and a strong survival instinct being put to good use here. if we dont have ships and tanks, the only other option i see would be to nuke em, which would probably result in nukes all around.

made in the USA , it matters more than some might think.

Since I don't know the full story about his criminal activities, I can't comment on them, or on him as a person. :Do No:
But I do have to say that I really agree with alot of his "one minute speaches". He's hitting alot of nails right on the head.
Keep in mind when you read them... they are from 2000 and older.
Pre Bush, Pre 911, Pre Bin Laden, Pre Iraq etc....
As Brian said... he was ahead of his time!
