The difference is about $700.00. The 71 GS is just a fun cruise night car - not show. Any suggestions?
I thought base coat/clear was poly as well? What color will it be. Metallic colors need clear coat I have been told. Others may not. clear coat offers more protection as well.
If it's a metallic color I would use base/clear. If it's a solid color like red, yellow, white, black, etc... I would use single stage urethane. Not only will you save $$$, it will have that "era correct" look about the paint.
I believe in B/C everything. If you scratch or damage it, you can blend it. You can't really blend single stage. The edge will show especially if it sees a lot of sunlight. Polyurethane is single stage, hard as a rock, difficult to sand and buff. B/C is more user friendly and more forgiving. Poly may last a long time but when it's time to redo or repair, it requires more effort.
hardley an expert but,my paint/body friend recomended s/s since i am painting myself & a virgin at it :beer like you i want something thats not big-bucks,not a show car,but looks good.ive only done front of jambs & cowl section but the paint looks just fine.and a lot cheaper p now if i can get the waves out of the hood, its next
pay the extra, the durability and repairability make it more valuable for a driver than for a pampered show car. IMHO It's lower maintenance too.
With good prep and the paint technology these days, it's hard to go wrong no matter your choice. :TU: Devon
