I don't believe that the administrators would incorporate pop up adds without careful consideration. I'm not getting them which leads me to believe that you have some "spyware" installed on your machine and it's watching what internet sites you visit and picks up key words and phrases from that site to custom-deliver adds to your machine. I bet the ad was for something automotive.

Either way you need to remove the offending software (unless you like having people take note of every website you go to in order to deliver "Customer Focused Advertising" to you) by doing a search on http://www.google.com for spyware removal. There have been a few discussions on this already on this board so a search on the word "spyware" might bring up some useful links. Hth.

If you are getting a box that says "messenger service", that is an integral part of windows and can be deactivated. If that's what is happening, let me know and I will tell you how to deactivate it.

Pop up ads? what are those.... oh yea.. i use Mozilla with the popup blocker turned on. works realy well. there is a lil orange button that comes up on the bottom edge that says if one was trying to come up. you can click it to see the popup.

I would highly recommend everyone to run a spyware program at least once in a while, such as:

    http://www.tucows.com/preview/305123.html

you would be surprised how many little nasty bits of code are in your computer, especially if you use a P2P (such as WinMX) to download, ahem, questionable items. I think when I ran it, some 250-odd items were found.
