I see that por-15 is UV sensitive if left exposed to the sun. How sensitive? If i do my frame and underbody is this considered being exposed to the sun? Must i use a topcoat to get the proper gloss if I plan to do a correct restoration? Thanks Scott
if left in direct sun it turns milky in about 6 months under the car you will get reflective UV - so maybe in 5 years it will discolor. I do not think POR makes a paint "correct" for our cars - check Eastwood - they have a good rust paint that is "chassis black" - Bill
Eastwood also makes a rust encapsulator paint that can act as a base for Chassis Black paint. POR peels sometimes and does turn a milky blue color.
I've read that UV causes POR-15 to fade, but forget if it effects the anti-corrosive properties. You'll have to topcoat it shortly after putting on the POR.
i'm gonna do my chassis with por15 and put a coat of chassis paint over it to prevent it from changing colout. Also this chassis coat ( i belive ) is the correct one for gm cars. ( this is what the salesmen told me ) And por 15 peeling ??? doesn"t seems likely to me have you ever had it on your hands ? after 2 weeks you could still see it Greetings Lennard
Speaking of getting it on your hands, use latex gloves. I tried vinyl gloves and it went right through
It will peel if the prep is not good just like any paint. As far as fade on the underside it may take a long time. Mine is on 3 years now but only gets a few thousand miles a year.
