Looking for a posi carrier for my 1970 stage 1 rear. CAr has the 3.64 gears and its the original rearend that has the 2 different size bearings. ANy help would be great.
Chris, This will be an expensive and hard to find piece. You might want to consider upgrading to an 8.5 rear. Bill
I have a 8.2 BOP posi carrier, new in box, but I'm not sure if it's correct for your car. Can you tell from a picture, or tell me what I need to check?
posi Artie, if you can E mail a picture of your carrier to me, I can probably tell you what it will fit. Send photo if possible to buick455@juno.com. JKC
part Thanks John, Im happy that you want to see if its the right one for my rear. When are you stoping in town? We got some tires to burn at the track. Wed or Sat nights @ thompson's. Your choice the silver car or the gold car. Chris
I jave a posi unit out of my 71 is that the right one ? let me know I was gjust going to post some stuff for sale
71 should have the 8.5 which is completely different. Chris, I should be in Erie within the next week or two. Have to deliver an engine to Rochester.
posi Im checking into the pics as we speek. I might have to pulll apart my other rear to verify. Are the threads right or left handed?
Chris, The original 70 style posi was a cone style. The one shown in the pics appears to be a clutch style. I doubt it will work with your rear end. Also you will need to have the right offset or use a ring gear spacer which I wouldn't suggest. Just my 02. You may want to check with Oph on the board. He is one of the experts. Bill
I might be wrong and am a lot of times but I believe you will not have to shim this rear carrier if its a 3 series . The cone style is know to be problematic . I would think that a replacement that fits the original housing is a ghreat way to go . I say if its a 3 series go for it . There are several 8.2 carriers listed in Summit that fit your housing and you cannot see it when installed John
My carrier has 3.36+ next to the description on the label on the box. It was supposed to be used with the new 3.91 Richmond gears I have here, so it should not need a spacer.
