Hi everyone, I have a old S4 dist with a Holley box and Holley round coil on my car. The problem is it makes funny pops out of the exhaust, mainly in hi gear, I have noticed that the tach jumps every time it pops also. I have changed brand of plugs and have put on a new set of Accel 300+ wires { had Taylors} and it is still there. jetting changes don't help or weather conditions. My question is, is it possible to get the box tested or do I have to buy another ignition to see if that fixes it. The rev limiter is set at 6300 and it goes through the traps at about 5900. Seems to be much worse in high gear where motor is working harder for longer time. I have plug wires seperated and away from power and other wires going to box and coil. Any ideas? Thanks Tom:Comp:
Ignition Tom, I'd raise your rpm limit to 67-6800 and see if the problem goes away. I chased a similar problem last year with an MSD ignition and finally discovered on dyno that limit was coming in intermidently about 2-400 rpm early. Tom Rix
Could having the coil mounted in the stock location be a problem? Because it is so close to alternator and wires? o No: Tom
