    Hello all,
My power bench seat doesn't move very well (fast) like it use to,still works though. I just started on restoring the car, it's been sitting a couple years, so I was wondering what i could do to get moving smothly again. can I get a new motor? or new brushing and stuff for that, or maby just a good lube job. Thanks guys

Clean and lube the mechanical parts but not the motor. The motor either turns or it does not at the desgned RPM IF the rated voltage is applied at its terminals. If the wires that move with the seat have frayed or the negative side has a ground that needs cleaning( too much resistance) then you can have a reduced operating voltage which will manifest itself as a lower than rated RPM and slower seat movement.

i was having some problems with getting all the directions on my power bench seats to work. what i did was unscrew the little "driveshafts" from the gear boxes on the rails and just let the shafts spin freely with no load on them. i just held down teh switches and eventually all the crud and stickyness went away. started out slow and worked its way up to a pretty good speed. then just screw them back in, and it should be better...it worked wonders for me anyways.

The slides have to move freely. If they are stuck or move hard, the seat will never work right and you'll prolly end up screwing up the drive system. The best thing to do is take a day to get it apart, clean everything well and lube it up real good. My tracks were rusty inside where the plastic slides go through and the only way to get it working right was to completely dissassemble it and I had to bead blast the tracks. Hopefully yours won't need blasting, it's too hard to get a wire brush in there. Also, be careful not to break the cables, they can get brittle. :bglasses:
