I've been helping a friend get his 70 GS back together. The power steering belt was rigged (shimmed out with nuts)to go around the water pump and only used one of the alternator belts. The car was changed around and I have no idea what the brackets even came off of. I put the alternator belts back and took the shims off to put the power steering pump back. Now the power steering belt will hit the water pump when I route it from the crank to the pump. Does anyone have a picture of the belts set up on a 70 big block no a/c?? It seems the pump it set high, but looks the same as other 70's I looked at.
I had the same problem on my 76 block, trying to use the '70 350 pump and brackets. Here's the set up I ended up with. It bolts directly to the block and there is no triangular aluminum piece. I'm not sure if this is correct for 70 GS though.
on my BBB the previous owner did a hack job of putting the power steering brackets off the original 350 by only using one bolt. so i too had the trouble your having when i bolted it in "correctly". what i did was buy some pulley's from a 350 with a/c and ran the power steering belt around the water pump pulley and the crank pulley. its worked just fine for over a year with no problems. you just have to measure what sized belt you need. The brackets for a 350 and 455 are different. If you use the 350 brackets on a 455, the belt will hit the water pump. This is a 70 BBB power steering setup.
