heads Heads can make or break a motor and you want to make sure they are in good shape before you go "into" the engine for further mods like a cam.By "good shape" I mean that your valves are in good shape and your springs are still holding up well. Also check the valve to guide wear and your valve seals. power/2 well i am getting my heads reworked, all new valves and lifters, and a aluminum intake i already have a holley 600 carburator so i should see an improvement on horsepower right?
Re: power/2 It all sounds good, except maybe the size of the carb. Most folks wouldn't recommend anything smaller than a 750(OEM size)! Buicks (small and big blocks) respond well to big carbs!! But yeah...you should feel a noticeable difference!:TU:
70/Skylark you will be leaving some pwer on the table if you go with only a 600 cfm carb.Don't go with anything smaller than a 750.I found out too late(pre-V8 Buick.com)that Buicks like the bigger carbs and I bought a Edelbrock 600 cfm #1406 and though the carb works great and gets me good mileage I feel I'm running out of juice on the top end.So now I'm going to be scrounging the junk yards this spring for a 750 or 800 quadrajet. The Buicks really seem to like those. However as easy as it is to work on the Edelbrocks , a750 or 800 cfm would be nice too.Decisions, decisions! :ball:  :ball: Jeff B. P.S. What is your name ?
600!! Throw that in the paper sell it to a chevy boy! A 73 455 came with a 800 cfm carb. Use the Qjet that came from the engine it will out perform that 600 holley anyday. :Smarty:
Years ago I made the mistake of listening to the speed shop and putting a Holley 600 on my stock 350. My old carb had died, so I needed a replacement. The car lost power with the 600. Definitely go with at least 750.
