I will be going in for spine surgery on L5 S1 Monday. Not my number one time to have this, birthday couple days later, made it ot 65!!
We are living in a new erra. My first was L3 repair back in the late 80s, tuff recovery. All went well then this on L5. These days the procedure is way less invasive. Thanks!
Prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery. My mom just went through a similar surgery and is doing great. She is in her late 70's.
I had a laminectomy done along with some grinding of the holes where the nerves come out 8 weeks ago. L1 thru L5 and S1. Seven inch incision. Now I can stand and walk without the pain I had before. My leg doesn't go gumby now like it did before, but there is some numbness there. Also some mild discomfort that I didn't have before and I am hoping it becomes less as time goes on. That seems to be happening. I consider it a success. I now walk a mile or more and could do more, but I also have bad lungs and that is what stops me from more. Before surgery a 500 foot walk would be my limit. Doc said it would be a 3 day hospital stay, but he let me out in one and a half days. Pretty painful for about 2 weeks. Take the pain pills. I didn't, but I hate the way they make me feel. At one month you will feel like you can do things you shouldn't be doing. Don't do them, it will only set you back in recovery. Ask me how I know. Three months post op I am going golfing. Doc says I should be able to do just about anything I want by then. I am at 2 months post op now and about the only thing doc said to limit is heavy lifting and a full golf swing. I am 70 years old and had a lung removed a couple of years ago. You have my prayers. Just don't push it early and you will be fine. If you have questions, I would be glad to give you an opinion, but talk to a doc first if you can. I wish I had done it sooner. It is so nice not having the constant debilitating pain.
I had L3 repaired back in 87 and have had no problems. The difference this time is light to medium leg and back pain. The first time with L3 was it would put me on the ground! The recovery was awful with muscle spazems and difficulty walking. New ways on this procedure have made it better from what I've read. My doctor takes care of our football team (The Ravens) so the is encouraging. Thanks for support, you can always count on support here, you all are the best!
Just read off all the prayers and support, thanks so much! You all are the best! With the good Lord and you all pulling for me gives me great relief!
