i have removed all the trim on my car, stripped the paint, did some of the bodywork (stuff that i was capable of doing, first car, first resto) i was wondering if there was anything i could do to make my paint job look beter while lowering the price to get it painted.

p.s. i live near oxnard,ca and was wondering if there are any good paint shops that anyone knows of, i am a student and dont have a lot of money to spend, i want a good paint job that is "semi cheap" 1000-1500 range NO EARL SHRIBE S#!T, thanks for the help

Post some pics...I'm going to start the stripping of my Apollo Saturday and want to see what others have done. Won't be a complete resto, but I just want something to look pretty nice. My buddy worked in autobody for a while, and I was planning on getting one of the expensive earl scheib or maaco jobs, then wet sanding it afterward. I'm told that should look pretty nice.

Greetings neighbor! I'm in Thousand Oaks and about to start some major bodywork on my 65 Skylark. Looking forward to hearing how your project is going as well.

hey guys i have a thread about my car and the work i have done, click on it below, i have also heard if you do all the prepwork, an earl shrieb paint job wont be bad, however im looking to price out a professional job, the quote from earl shribe is 650 for top of the line + minor body work, i have opted to do the body work myself, to do it right. i still havent decided where im gonna take it

i am using a chemical stripper ( "aircraft remover" ) to take off all the old paint, then i sand the car down with 80-grit paper on an electeric DA sander, this method works well if you have multiple layers of paint like my car does, if you only have the factory paint you might be able to just easly sand it off using a 40-80 grit paper

    wurstarme Buicks...rock?

I went to a local Maaco location and said I was on a budget and wanted to do the body work myself and just have them spray it. One of the guys that actually does the work (not the front-end guys in the suits) told me to basically do what you're doing. He told me to remove all the trim, repair any rot with repair plates, strip it, bondo the minor problems, mask it off, prime it and use my free 3-mile AAA towing to get it there. He made it sound really simple, and to be honest it has been so far. The only part I can't do is weld in a repair plate, but that only costs $58 plus labor. Everything else has been really straight-forward. I think mine will turn out nice :beer
