finally got going on this after collecting all the tools.started with the hood, its stripped.dont see any major damage & no filler. :eek2: going to do a skimcoat, sand that,now..with filler & bare metal what do i primer it with?i am not going to paint it right away(read more on this idea later in post),doing it piece by piece.hood-fenders-doors-trunk.clip goes to body shop as it has rust damage, needs trunk floor(in my garage etched) & is beyond what i feel comftorable with.(translation:i want it done right).also, after priming, would it be stupid to basecoat what i have primered with say 2 coats, assemble the car so i can drive it,and when i am ready sand it again & do another 2 coats of base?i ask this because i dont see being able to afford to send the clip to the bodyshop till next winter.oh hell,i'll change my mind a dozen times between now & tomorrow

I would use an epoxy primer personally. It will give you better protection than etch primer and it'll stick to anything from bare metal to primer to paint. I'm using PPG DP50 LF right now on my 71 Skylark convertible project and have been very happy with it.

I'd leave it in a primer sealer if it was to be in primer for some time, but to get there, I would go etch, surfacer (build) sealer. Scuff the sealer with 600 before base coat. Not keen on epoxy as it doesn't sand well in my opinion.
