For Sunday elims, those of us in Pro class were assigned 3 staging lanes instead of the 2 we had been using, which were overflowing on previous days. This was great, but when they started sending cars, the dude kept pulling cars from only lanes 7 & 8, while those of us in a very full lane 9(thanks Yardley) sat there while the guy emptied out 7 & 8 first. uzzled: What was up with that? Shouldn't they pull cars from all 3 lanes? Maybe he didn't realize Pro was expanded for elims. Sure got hot sitting there in the sun with my black interior... then the track announcer (Jim? Bruce?) yells over the PA for the guys at the back of lane 9 to fill in 7 & 8, as it emptied out... what about those of us at the front of 9? Was this likely a miscommunication with track personnel? I don't understand why they would ignore the 3rd lane. o No: Other than that, I got NO complaints, 'cept it would have been nice to have room to drive around the burnout box. I think the few times I spun were due to not getting all the water off the tires, cost me 2-3 tenths each time it happened.
David, I did give instructions to the staging guy to pull from ALL 3 lanes. I can't explain why he did what he did instead of pulling from each, which would have emptied the middle lane first, then you pair the outside lanes from there. Jim
As Rodney Dangerfield said, "No respect, we just can't get no respect" Dave, first off I was real glad on meeting up with you at the Red Roof and finally placing a face to your name. We had some great laughs in the lot during those late night hang out sessions. Hope to repeat things for next year. Hope you made it home with no problems and safely. Anyway, I was totally unaware of the problem with the staging lanes, wish I knew so that myself and Doug would have corrected the problem immediately. Both of us are like the grunts, we are always down in the lanes being we are racing, so we are easily accessible, and can then reach out to the tower. Sound like it was a little confusion with the tower and the guy sending out the cars in the lanes. Like other details with the event we will make a note of this so that this won't be a problem next year. If something like that does occur, please seek out me or Doug ASAP no doubt we'll be in the lanes. Thanks for your input:TU:
Jim, I kind of figured the problem was down in the lanes. Someone had told me that they would probably alternate lanes when more than 2 had to be used, but this being my first time racing, I didn't feel comfortable asking the guy in staging. But after awhile, another racer did run to the front and seemed to be asking what was up, but nothing changed at that point either, so we just waited. At least it wasn't 95deg. I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet too. All in all, I thought it was a very well run event, and I couldn't have been happier with how things went during the week. Thanks for all the work you put into helping make it happen. :TU: Rick, it was nice to meet you finally, and see you back on the track! The motel parking lot was a good time, but I couldn't keep my eyes open much past 12, so I missed out on most of the REALLY good stuff... like the MN moon and fireworks display  Thanks Alan! What a guy, sacrificing dozens of your own passes in order to record for posterity this super event. :beer Marco, check out my sig for my best runs info... now I have to figure out what to spend on before 2006 to improve on that. Ken's running high 13's with his 350.... :Brow:
The thing with pulling 7-8 is that's the way Quaker does it on a regular racing night (old habits die hard). They pull all of 7-8 side to side and then run out lane 9 nose to tail. I was stuck in 9 and then upon hearing Jim over the loud speaker, I waited until I could get free and moved over into lane 8.
Alan great video!!! I want one of my car, I want oneI want one! Dave Watched it, you have to smoke them rubbers up a bit more, and when you started the burnout you were still in the water. Next time roll up a bit further. If I did a burn out like that Doug Hecker would beat me like a baby seal:grin:
Re: Re: Pro Class at BPG Ahh nuthin, just giving you a hard time... I was pulling into the back of lane 7 when 7 & 8 were starting to get full, and you waved me up to move to 9, and I obliged, along with some other cars. Was no big deal really.
Just taking it easy on the new tires... I suspected the 3-4 runs where I spun, it was because they were still wet. I'll get the hang of this yet!
Re: Re: Re: Pro Class at BPG Yards was flagging you to go in FRONT of him....not around him. He wanted to line up with me that race, and there was a gap in front of his car. He was trying to get people to go in front of him, but they kept lining up in lane 9!!!ou: :spank: :spank: :spank:
Stick a fork in the tranny....it is definitely done! Fortunately JW had an empty and available trailer at the Nats so we were able to bring the car home without any problems. Time for a beefy re-build I guess....it is the stock original tranny. I heard a rumor from the V6 Director that there may be a beefed up one just lying around in Columbus somewhere waiting for a good home to go to......!:Brow:
Also, considering the high # of cars in Pro, in retrospect, would we have considered splitting it into 2 classes? We had mid 11sec cars and the slowest was in the 19's. I know I heard some guys comment they wished the Pro/Super Pro break would have been a second slower.
when i asked the kid who was calling the lanes why they stopped us pro guys he said it was the BPGs decision and they would get back to us. i was pretty heated about being stopped in favor of the other classes. i hope it was just bad communication i hate when the the little guy gets stepped on.
