I have been meaning to ask this since I bought my car last year, but always forget, so here goes.

My GS came with the sport mirror option and the drivers side has the remote cable. The problem is, when my dad had the doors painted, the body shop removed the door panels and now the cable gets hung up on the bottom side of the window when it's rolled up. When this happens, the window will only roll down about half way before the cable tightens and stops it.

I looked inside the door to see if there was some place that the cable should be routed to stay away from the window, or if there was some sort of hanger that it is supposed to clip into, but found nothing. Anybody got any ideas on how to remedy this?

Take the door panel off and if it is getting caught up make the cable shortter. :beer

But then the cable won't go far enough around the front of the window. When it's rolled up there won't be enough room to clear the front of the window. The cable is the correct length, I just can't figure out how it used to be held in there.

I thought about using wire ties, but the metal inside the door is really sharp and I'd hate for it to get shaved in half right and the window get stuck down, right about the time I drive through a rain storm. :ball:

Your cable is routed incorrectly. You need to remove the door panel and watershield. Remove the mirror and cable as a unit. Now, when you reinsert the cable, you will see a metal guide plate below the main opening. Insert hte cable and then feed it forward (facing the front tire). Now continue the cable to the door hinge and then you will see a large "J" hook where the cable slides in to keep it away from the window and regulator. Use a large screwdriver to close the opening to prevent the cable from "poping" out of the hook. Reinsert the cable into the door panel opening as usual and your problem will be solved. :TU:
