where do i send them ??? i have the dual point in the dart and i'm building a clone of an original for for my FACTORY spec (not to be confused with NHRA SPEC) 383 and storing the original drivetrain in the corner of my shed , the mice need a place to live too . the only electronics in my dart is an add on MSD rev limiter and a shift light as i'm too distracted to look at the tach down on the column . also no X pipe or even an H pipe ,that way i don't have to undo it :error:
i'm all for it , i still haven't gotten the hang of heel/toeing the brake to do a burnout in a 4 speed .
steve, the Ti only came on solid lifter cars, as you know. All of the clones that were raced as L-88's would have had to have the Ti ignition added, and therefore did leave the factory with points ignitions. My question is, will an msd box help out over using a pertronics or crane xri points conversion? Or are we all wasting our money? For $69.00 the crane xri comes with a built in rev limiter
the TI was available for my L79.... and I learned the crane conversion is a poor rev limiter...it literally shut off spark as opposed to the soft rev limiters in the msd box ...............
You might want to research that a little bit, Julies corvette was a hydraulic lifter cast intake 350/350 HP car from the factory with a TI ign, TI igns were available on more cars than people think. Here are a couple and I can give you a lot more. Another thing Im going to try for '07 is to see if putting the spare tire back in will make the 60 foot better. The extra weight may hurt on the big end, but if the 60 foot gets better if could make for a lower et. :eek2: Wow, am I gonna be busy. And I thought I was gonna get to laze off. :error:
I believe that TI was first offered by Pontiac in 62 or 63? The Bowtie engineers promptly "appropriated" it shortly thereafter. I'm pretty sure it was an available option by the mid 60's.
CORRECTION TO MY LAST POST the TI was standard on all solid lifter C3 cars, you could buy the TI as an option on all cars, however it was part of the package on the solid lifter cars and could not be ordered with out it. Just like you could not get air conditioning on the solid lifter big blocks
i've already gotten the idea of where to hide it and how to activate it in stealth mode , not i just need to hide the lines ...
I have a Pertronix in the Judge since the around 2000. It was changed over at Quaker during practice and promptly ran exactly the same times. I now mostly run the Crane for the limiter. But be forewarned we have found on the dyno they start creeping in about 500 rpm before they kill the fun. You have to set them high or they will rob power. Ie. if you want a 6000 rpm shift point you need to put it higher than 6500 or it will start working before you shift. Kind of like the old Motorcraft limiters on the Boss 302 and 428 SCJ cars. They were set for 6150 rpm but started pulling voltage power to the distributor at 5800. I run the Pertronix or Crane simply because I am lazy. We have tested both at the dyno changing from points to them and never gained an ounce of power. They just make life consistant and easy. Mark
