I just got a 67 Skylark with a 300 in it. When I started looking into rebuilding it boy my boyfriend and my buddy discouraged me from doing so. She's my firt project and they suggested going to a Chevy 350 for both cost and availabiltiy of parts.

My buddy is going to help me assemble a 350 that he machined out to 30 over and did some other modifications to. It's my understanding from him that you want to bore it out as little as possible. Enough to remove the damage and scores, perferably 30 over, as he says the horse power isn't made in the cylenders by boaring them out. You can add horse power in a rebuild by stroking it and through the heads. I'd recomend talking to a few places that localy do machining where you live and see what they suggest. That's how I've learned most of what I'm doing.

Whatever you do make sure the tranny is beefy enough to handle the motor mosifications, especailly if you plan to do any racing.

i dont want to get too extreme, the only racing i plan on doing...is sleeper races.. at the light :bglasses: im mounting my rebuild to my new turbo 300... so after a little rear end work...i should be fine, thanks for the tip though.

Oh, then the 300 would be very stylish. Keep me posted! I'm intersted to see how it turns out. I'm looking at pulling mine out the end of March so if you need anything just hollar.

Ah, we had that issue with the dart. On the upside you are ahead of me on it being out of the car while you are trying to do it! I have a few "valley" tricks. Now when I say valley that's the area were I'm from in Alaska. It's our own south. We used foaming Gunk and carb cleaner to help eat the rust away and get the bolts loose. As to the flywheel we used a big guy with a screw driver holding the plate steady while I wrenched on the bolts. Granted, it isn't the right way, but we made it work in a pinch.

It's lookin' good though. Can't wait to see your progress!

Andrew, go to the "Small Block Tech" and do a search for "300." You'll find as much as you need to know about the motor...Good luck!
