Here is where we start: Skull & Crossbones' heart is now underway. I am going to show piece by piece what it is going to take to single turbo a 350. I am going to show cost and build dynamics in this thread. I will go into as much detail with pictures as I can. I am very excited for this project.

Most of you know I was going to twin turbo a 455 in this project. As I learned more about the 455 I became more and more apprehensive. I am not a fan of the weak bottom end. I know I am not building a Doug Hecker 8 second beast, but I keep hearing the same story with the 455 breaking apart in the lower block and lifter valley when 600+ HP is put on the engine. 455 fans please don't try to correct me, I am not dissing the 455. One day I will build a N/A one but for what I want to do now, it is not the right engine.

My plan is to show everyone step by step and dime by dime what it takes to do this build. So without further adiou let's build a turboed beast!!!!:3gears:

Single turbo go intercooled, it's not that expensive. That fuel system is going to be shakey.

Ahem? 455 dis??:error: Whats wrong with an unbreakable 550 hp street brawler?:bla:

J/K bro. Can't wait to see your progress.

    Is this for the 66???:TU:

Yeah Joe the 66. I feel weird though we just cleaned that 340 and it looks so purty in there. I want to save it for a 68-70 GMC pick up project (I know, let's get at least one project done before we start yet another. . .lol) That'll be the tow vehicle for this car:grin:
Joe if you need any 455 performance parts please let me know. I am going to be putting it all up after the holidays so if you need something let me know. I can always work something out with you if need be:TU:

lose the holley pump it wont keep up under boost when the pressure has to rise

Adam what do you suggest as an economical replacement? (If you have something in mind)

You definatly need more fuel then that Holley blue pump. Your going to want a pump that will support 800hp NA....at 40psi fuel pressure. Figure your going to running 10psi of boost which will me you will require at least 17psi of fuel pressure....you need insurance with a fuel system. Put together a nice system with a return and obviously a regulator that is boost referenced.
I would also agree, intercool it now during the initial build rather then adding it in later.

I'm getting the impression my holley blue pump will be for sale and the 3/8" line will now become a return line and the "in" line will be 1/2" Maybe I'll go with one of the aeromotive setups. I know they are expensive but if I run lean with cast pistons and it's curtains for the engine. Thanks for the advice boys. Warning heeded!:TU:

if your shooting for 550-600 hp the mallory 110 FI pump and return reg would work well or if you want a bit more an A1000 aeromotive. the lbs per hour means more that the pump designation ie holly 110 mallory 140 etc.check the pumps rating at higher pressure and you can usually tell the pumps capability.

How much boost are you going to run?

I'm shooting for starting at 6 and work my way up to maybe 9-10 depending on the mods I accomplish as I build:TU:

    Hey Tony!
    Sounds like a cool build!:TU:
My winter project is to rebuild a V6 for my old '79 Turbo Regal... First stage will be the stock draw-thru setup, but I'd eventually like to upgrade to a blow-thru carb with intercooler... for another 100 hp!

Been doing some reading on this forum...check it out. Mostly 'stang guys, but the cid and application is close enough.

It's a tough crowd, but they know their stuff.

It would be a good idea to upgrade to forged pistons. V6 pistons will fit the 350, and they'll fit a 300/340 too with an overbore.
If my V6 build goes well, I might even upgrade to a 300/340 single turbo someday:bglasses: The TA rover alum heads would be a great addition to the old blocks...keep that in mind.... the 350 might not be the best hp choice.

For your fuel system, I wonder if a late model stock in-tank EFI fuel pump combined with a good pressure regulator would suffice. Carb choice would start with a modded Holley double-pumper and escalate to a bolt-on one for another $400.

Lets keep this thread going! There's a lot of potential in these pressure-cookers!

I agree bag the holley blue. That is what I was running and it was part of the reason mine kept leaning out. How much boost do you intend to run after you running the 6psi? The alchy kit should let you go pretty high.
