Anyone know of a reasonably priced source? Here is a Snap On link but I would not call these reasonable. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...=19746&supersede=&store=snapon-store&tool=all
Those are the only ones I have ever seen Jim, and yes, I do own a set. You have to be very careful with even these, I have already had to replace a couple. JW
Jim, S&K had a set with plastic inserts for few years and discontinued them. I also have the snap-on set and paid more than 180. Well worth the money after you have to refinish a few fasteners or boltheads. Just think of the time and cost of coatings. Even with this set you will still have a few mishaps! :ball:
Long ago I quit asking what tools cost.. ou: I never stopped to total it all up, but I am sure all money I spent on my tools and shop equipment could buy one heck of a fleet of GS's.. JW
Protective sockets I saw a set on I think the web site was Route66.com or maybe Route66supply.com. I forget the price but like Jim said I quit looking at the price, if I need it I have to get it. Mike
Matco or Mac also makes the "plastic lined" sockets...once again..the price is not too great. Sometimes, if you watch thetoolwarehouse.net, you will see after a period of time, the copycat (ie cheaper) versions of some of these unique tools eventually become available. Brands like AstroPnuematic and OTC Tools typically come out with stuff like this. For the non-professional restorer these can be a financial godsend. Unfortunately you probably don't have the luxury of waiting for these copycat items to come out. Patton
Not exactly but... Griots's impact set Before you look they are for lug nutz- and METRIC ones at that! I have seen something in an Eastwood Catalog but did not find them on line. Ted :beer
Sad to say, but I've always used a small section paper towel for my chrome lugs nuts. Guess I'm out of the loop!
Thanks Jim Griots catalog is much nicer! Not that I would buy from them, too pricey and this just proves it!
DEI (they make the heat shield stuff you find at speed shops) used to sell the cheap plastic inserts you slip into the end of a regular socket..they don't seem to work to well but might do in a pinch. Eastwood may still have them----heck--I gave them the "heads up" on those socket inserts years ago--saw a commercial for them on late-night TV on night and called Eastwood the next day, gave them the info, said they weren't aware of them. They showed up in the next Eastwood catalog.
