Looking for the PS mounts for a 455 from a Skylark. I currently have one from an Electra and it mounts too low and pump only clears the box by less than a 1/4".

I've attached a picture of the difference between the two..

    Quote:
The two brackets on the left are from a 71 Skylark. The ones on the right are from a 70 Electra. The Electra version has an aluminum front bracket, #1385158 and stamped steel back bracket, #1385157. The Skylark has stamped steel front and rear, #1234485. The white arrow shows the adjustment slot on the Electra bracket. The slot is too low for use on Skylark/GS models and lets the power steering pump contact the power steering box high pressure hose/line.

ThePartsPlace sells the two metal brackets.

    Here you go. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=84932
These will work, but you will need the aluminum triangular bracket also. It should not be hard to find.
Check with BrunoD here on this board.

    Good Luck

I got the two pieces from ThePartsPlace, but I realized I don't have the correct aluminum bracket. Rats...

Bruno, or anyone, do you have the aluminum bracket for a 71 455 in a 65 Skylark like in the picture below and how much to ship to 85326?

Or just the two metal ones for a 71 455??

    Keith,
    Great pics!

Your best bet is to get the 71-2 Skylark brackets. Should be much cheaper
    and easier to find.

The pictures are not from my car, they just show what parts I need.

I don't think the 350 brackets fit on a 455, but please look and compare. I'm looking for any setup that will work, but can't seem to find ALL the required pieces.

The Electra mounts I currently have causes the high presure pipe out the back of the pump to touch where the pipe screws into the steering box. Actually, I did manage to get a 1/8" clearance between the two, but too close for comfort.

The Skylark brackets have the pump setting higher than on an Electra, where my motor came from.

the 350 brakets might work as the 430 from the riv now resides in a
72 skylark with all my 350 parts on it . i can match it up to my
65 special with a 225, i bet that is the same bracket you are lookin for.

Yes, the pictures ARE from your article, but I must have missed the part where the 350 brackets work on a 455.

BTW - That article has been a great help to me in my search..

I really can't tell if that one will work or not.

Now I did find one on ebay for a 71 350, but again I'm not sure if that will fit either.

Can anyone verify either of these mounts? How many different mounts did Buick make???

The one alec296 is showing you should work just fine. If i'm not mistaken the last picture you posted is going to sit to low for your application.

I thought the 350 brackets will cause the belt to hit the water pump, since the pump sits up even hgher?

Hello all, lots of good info, especially w/the pics! I have a 67 special w/a 300 in it now. I have a 70 lesabre w/the 455 that's going into the 67, and has the low mounting powersteering setup. I also have all the parts from a 225 powered 4 door 67 special. will the 300/225 parts work on the 455 in the a-body? If not, then I'm looking for a setup too. Thanks, RAlph 734 915 2201 should anyone be close to michigan, that's even better!

You missed one more part of the equation, the water pump shaft.

I believe all 71 on up 455 came with the long shaft water pump, which requires a different pulley than a short shaft water pump, so being your's is a 70 455, you probably have the short shaft unless someone has swapped it.

So, brackets are one thing, but pulleys are an issue too. So, when you finally find a set, get all the parts, pump, brackets both front and rear, mounting bolts, pulley.

My 'long shaft kit' is on the way, so I'll have more info after I see how it all fits.
