    Jim Weise;

    Just wondering if you've setup a Buick 455 stage 1 for the PSMCDR events or something that is close? If their is a weakness to the motor it would have to be the low lift camshaft from the factory. The Stage 1 strengths would be 13:1 compression from the NHRA specs. If you haven't, what type of power do you think you could get out of it with those dreaded exhaust manifolds? For those that don't know the rules of the PSMCDR they are at this website. http://www.geocities.com/psmcdr/rules.html

    I don't know much about it other than folks seem to get good flow through stock manifolds after some slurry treatment.

    You may wish to just PM Jim

    I think a Buick would do very well with such rules.

    By the way, there was no factory 13:1 Stage-1 455 Buick engine. In 1970, the first year for the 455 stage-1, the compression was maybe 10.25:1. And comp. declined after that year.

    During the years of the Pure Stock rule making the NHRA specs were aloud. With the 55.5 cc chamber and I think the 15 cc dish still brings it in around 13:1 compression.

    I do understand the factory advertised compression was 10.25:1. The 13:1 would make it even more of a torque monster for tis type of racing.

    Yea, if that was allowed, it could be very dangerous.

    I was meerly going by the info in the link you provided. It was fairly adament about everything being completely "factory".

    Either way, I think a well done Buick would do very well.

    I agree. Their have been some real quick ones and I was just wondering if JW has set one up for this type of racing? JW and JB both get some really nice power out of the stuff in the modified department. The certified program is below for this type of racing. http://www.geocities.com/psmcdr/cstock.html

    Dave Hemmeker has a GS he runs at the PSMCDR and it is certified and runs 12,80s. It is a 4 speed convert.

    That's pretty impressive. :eek2:

    Jim, according to that link, special NHRA approved parts are not allowed. :puzzled: :Do No:

    You are allowed to use NHRA specs to build your motor. This will allow 13:1 compression or a bit better if you could find a block to bore .070 over. The cam can be maximum .490 lift, duration, lobe centerline is wide open as long as it idles close to stock and pulls the required vacuum @ 1200 rpm. I have run a best of 13.18 @ 105 with my 4 speed convertible. This year I ran my hardtop and ran a best of 12.63 @ 108. My motor is not maximized to NHRA specs. I have not certified it but it will pass. The results for the fastest 21 qualifiers are in the Pure Stockers area, 2004 Pure Stock Results.
