Welp...after laying on my back last night looking at all the oil leaks...it looks like I need to just pull the 340 out and start replacing gaskets...part of the pan gasket was pushed out of the front and the old engine has major goo stuck to it so I guess it'll be easier and do a nicer job just taking it out while the front clip is off....and the rear main seals bad about leaking on these?...if so, are they a pain to change?
I'll be finding out later this week....engine is ready to come out, I have to bring the cherry picker home tomorrow from work and lift it out, I hate mech work so much but I'm glad I went ahead to done this, I found alot of stuff that needed attention that I would not have found until it failed...or fell off ou:
James, Advance Auto's website has a few parts for a 340 listed. Front timing cover seal (Fel Pro 15200) and a rear main rope seal ( Fel Pro BS130442) are a couple that I noticed.
Is that rear main easy to install?.....I hope NAPA has the parts cause I won't even buy wax from Auto Zone or Advanced
I didn't think to look at NAPA's web-site. And I can't remember the last time a packed a rope seal in, eitherou: . Gettin' old does that, I guess. The lower half of the seal is no problem. The crank's in the way to do a good job on the top half, though. I don't know if a neoprene seal is available. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys will help out on that.
Front and rear neoprene seals are available for the 340 Buick. They are the same as the 350 Buick. All of your Buick vendors will have them, ie, PAE Enterprises( first choice), TA performance, Postons, just to name a few. Jim Burek P.A.E. ENTERPRISES
