I am pulling the original stage 1 motor out of my 69 GS. It has 40,000 miles on it. Everything is stock. It has a light knock in the motor after I raced it with the highest RPM of 5300. I put in new lifters and push rods taking out and keeping the stock ones and checked the flex plate . It still made the noise. I was not going to run it any longer and risk ruining the motor.
Is there a 400 problem to look for as I take it apart. Are these scrapers I see sale for the bottom end worth buying? I know these motors have a oiling problem is there a way to solve this with out drilling and hearing about messing up a stock stage 1.
I also was thinking of restoring the engine putting in storage and putting in a 455. Any advice Pos. or neg. is needed. :Do No:

Take it appart and clean it and stick it in storage, and then build a 455. Tat way you save your # maching block. Just my .02.
