Just got done reading the article in HOTROD about the Pump Gas Drags.. very interesting.

Didn't see any Buick Powered rides in the article... did see a Regal with a BB Chevy on N2O.

I read that one had to be invited to this event, was any of our folks here on the board invited?

A question remains tho has anyone thought about stepping up to the plate for next year?

Me..... I know I don't have the goods in my ride yet, but I know some of you out there do... Tim Hol, Jim Weise, and all the others I can't think of right now.

I did see most of those guys were running power adders, like Nitrous, turbos , and Super Chargers, to get those numbers , do you think that any of our engine combos will stand up to those adders and last and at least compete?

Just curious.. love to see those pump gas cars run... and still have decent driveability

Would love to have one like that someday.. but for now..

    Chris,

I saw that article too. Enjoyed reading it in fact. But now that the word is out so to speak, it would be a HUGE surprise to me if a participant next year wouldn't have to be in the 8's to even be close. I don't know of any Buicks out there myself that could run the numbers those guys did back to back, and still meet their rules. Would be cool as all get out though if possible. But from what I saw we'de have to have hp numbers like Garrisons 800, cept' on pump gas, and then throw another 300 shot on top of it to come close. Doable , yea I think so I guess. But who wants to spend that much $$$ , on that timebomb Buick block ya know ?

On a different note along the same lines, I have heard(through a grapevine) that a couple pump gas, NOS helped, BB Buicks are being talked/planned about now. And one block is at the machinists ''in process'' so to speak, lol. We'll have to see how they come out I guess. May just be parts scattered, but there aint no reason to run skeerdt'. You just can't race them Chevy boys on motor anymore, cause' their gonna spray ya !!!

    On the Pump

It sad that this PGD didn't get more/if any attention from Buick Guys. I always used to hear of going fast with class but as the years go on its more like going slow with class. Yeh, all throttle and watch the guy with the bottle/turbo/supercharger show you tail lites or how to get the big"W". Back in the 80's we my have been kings running a 12 or 11 sec car on the street, now that considered "par". I would have thought someone would have stepped up to the plate and showed up with some "class". The blocks are weak but a good 10-11 comp motor with a power adder should have easily put us in the game with high 9's or low 10's without problems. There are some very fast/strong Buicks but they are high octane gobblin Race Cars. My hats off to them but they are not a 30 mi cruse pump gas street appearing rides.
I think this is the coolest thing I've heard of in a while and I'm suprised that this is the only post to mention it. I think you will see more race classes trying this approach. With Buick guys I think it fits and would love to see it catch on.
Anyone else or am I talking to myself. I did notice that it is an invite only race and didn't see any BOP'd powered ......WTF:af:

    meanmotor74 mmm.....pineapple

The thing I liked about it was the caddy powered mustang, if caddy can compete I cannot see why buick power cannot get into the action.

    Simple

the Caddy build up was very simple and lower rpm which is the same approach you could take on a Buick. I would use a little more cam but kept it simple.

    Re: On the Pump

You are not alone at all man. I know there are a few out there that are doing their homework on a setup like this now. Time will tell I guess, hopefully we will see some more in the future. I for one will be watching..............

I was wonder the same thing myself....why no BOP's?

But even tho..... a Grand National set up right.. would have been a good contendor.. if not right up there.. and been streetable.

I do have to agree and the our 455 Blocks being our weak point... but would it befar to say once T/A and BOP release thiers that we can use them in the class?

One guy was running a MERLIN block.....

Yes that Caddy powered Stang was rightly done... I bet he had the most fun per $$$.

That stang was right down my alley....... Hey I got a 88 Daytona in my Back yard... motor seized..... hmmmmmm

I'd love to enter my car if only they had a Drag Radial Class ! On a good day she'll run 10.20's / 10.30's on pump gas and its totally streetable. (and fairly stock appearing)

I can't compete with the 9 second cars but if they had a drag radial class I might be in the mix.

I was hoping to see some Buicks in that article as well.

Hopefully next year some Buicks will make a strong showing.
