HAHAHA Greg that's great. We get about 12 guys a huge specially made tarp thing, then we'll put it in the back of the Ford. The contest were going to is in Anamosa, Iowa.

His baby brother over on the right side is no sluuch either. Are the seeds football size or are there more of them? Perhaps someone from the pumpkin community can fill us in. Also, the conversions to measure pumpkins into pounds. Handy to know around haloween when deciding which ones to smash.
The pumpkin on the right is right around 1000 pounds right now, but compared to the 1300 pounder it looks small. The seeds are a little bigger than normal, about the size of your thumb. Theres several hundred per fruit, although they range quite a bit. We guess the size by using a chart, tip to stem, side to side, and circumference, look at a chart some people have put together and you'll get a ball park figure what it should weigh, most either go heavy :eek2: or light :ball:. heres some more pictures http://www.bigpumpkins.com/displayphoto.asp?pid=3085&gid=-20650
I can get my mind around a pumpkin person or even persons, but a whole community is hard to take standing up. Luckily I have I have something to calm my nerves.:beer I love Saturdays!!!!
Learn something new every day around here. Yesterday fingernails, today pumpkins. From the pumpkin site (quote): There was a good turn out of large pumpkins at Oswego. Here are some of the entries. Two over 1,000lbs.
Some but from what i have seen is they have only 1-2 fruits per vine. Keeping only the two biggest early pumpkins then going around all the time plucking off any others. The vine produces so much energy it has to go some where. So instead of 50 good size ones, you get 1 monster. There is a show about it. The biggest veggies come out of Alaska and its rumored that its the longer days. but one guy pointed out that other parts of the world have the same long days but no giants.
good to see that someone has had good luck with growing their Atlantic Giant I lost both of mine and they were doing so good.I have only been able to grow a 403 lb one afew fears ago and many 100-200 lb'ers.Any chance that I would be able to get some seeds off of you this fall I do not have any left to plant for next year
We have thousands of seeds from our own fruit, just email pumpkin-pack@mchsi.com and ask Dan for some and he'll take it from there, you'll have to provide the envelope/postage stuff but he'll hook ya up.
thanks sent him an email there are not many people here in western Pa that grow them there are quite a few in Ohio which is where I get my seeds but have not had much luck the last couple of years so maybe I'll have better luck with seeds out your way growing giant is alot of work but well worth it in the fall when everones eyes pop out at the sight of such a large pumpkin
