Anyone on here have any experience with pypes exhaust systems (http://www.pypesexhaust.com) - in particular how they fit on an early (65) GS? Their prices seem pretty reasonable, and I was wondering if there was a reason they were so much more inexpensive than the rest I've seen. Also, if anyone's got a suggestion on mufflers, let me know! I've been toiling over which muffler to go with for the past month, and keep changing my mind! Thanks, Brett
Their system is mandreal bent and from the x-pipes I saw, they're nice. I'm looking into one of their x's with the dump tubes that are included. I took notice to it at Carlisle, they should be down there this weekend.
exhaust Rob, Brett - If you need the downpipes they are more $. Dynomax mufflers have been very popular on this board. You can do a search and see more opinions. GSCA sells some nice systems too for about the same money, have you looked at those? also see Link - Bill
Bill - The downpipes aren't necessary for my application, as I've come across a set of GS club headers, which I've just installed. I figured now's as good a time as any to install a new exhaust. I've seen pypes has the Dynomax's... but a short (14") case. Will this significantly louder (with the X-pipe) than the 20" cases i've seen around somewhere? I wasn't aware GSCA had systems for the same ballpark price... i'll look them up now! Thanks for the heads up! Brett
Brett - I saw several Dynomax models on the pypes site?? including the 20" (2.5"). Look at the Dynomax Turbo mufflers. $82.00/ea RPE659B - Dynomax 2" x 20" Turbo Muffler [5] 280.0 - Bill
Whoops... I guess I was looking at the Ultra Flo's. Anywho, I just checked out the GSCA site, I really couldn't find anything out there outside of their system being the "best", as quoted from the website. Any one have any experience with this system?? Brett
Took the Pypes Plung I spent the last couple of days trying to figure out what exhaust to run on my 69 GS with 455. The motor is 30 over, Stock stage 1 heads, TA c113 cam, Performer Intake, John Osborn built 850 CFM Q-jet, Ignition man distributor, TA long tube headers. I had trouble with going from 3.5" collectors to 2.5" pipe. But I new that a full 3" exhaust was overkill for my mild set up. After comparing price, products, mufflers flow and sound I decided that I would run a 3" X pipe into 2.5" 18" casing Goerlich (sp), and tail pipes. I concidered T/A, Torque Tech, Pypes and others. After talking to the Pypes tech support and comparing prices I decide to go with Pypes. I order the system yesterday. The whole system with hangers, clamps, 3" X pipe, 2.5" mufflers, 3" to 2.5" reducers, tail pipes, and turn downs came to $424 and $50 shipping. I will post once I recieve and when I install the system.
The long case (20's) Dynomax Turbo mufflers are only $43 each at Summit, I just put a pair on my Stage 1 and love them!
muffler Hi Chris - yeah, most sites have them cheaper, I was just reporting what I saw. I am going through the same decision process for a system and will use the Walkers. I think I'm going with the TORQUE TECH system, they also give a 12% discount to BPGers. - Bill
Hi Brett, I had tied to install that brand system in my brother-in-laws 67 gto and it was TERRIBLE! The system does not fit correctly. In my opinion it is a waste of money . I am trying to get the money back but so far to no avail. Seems like they mismatched the tailpipes because I wanted 2 1/2" but used the molds for 2" instead and it was hitting everywhere. Go with Torque Tech or TA. They fit fine!
OHHH NOOOOOO ! John, You are worring me now..... Dam how come you could have posted this yesterday.....Oh well I hope they are ok. Pictures of system looked real nice. Plenty of a body Pontiacs on their web site and forums. I hope I did the right thing....I will keep everyone posted on how they work out for me.
Well, I ordered the pypes system about 2 weeks ago and got it in last week. Everything LOOKS ok, but we'll see how it lines up when I install it, which should be in about a week or two. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Brett
Install Complete Well, I installed my Pypes Exhaust last night.............I was really paranoid about the the fitment issues, But let me say that it worked out real nice. The 3" x pipe fits up nice and tight. I bumped the 2.5" muffler inlet to 3" so I won't have to use the adapters they sold me. The 18" casing Goerlich Excelerator Muffler fit and sound great. The only "modifiying" needed was a little tweaking up of the rear of the tail pipes so I could tuck them up into the quarter panels of the 69 GS. I will try to take some pictures and post them here. But I am pleased with the Pypes system and can recommend them. :TU:
I'm very happy with my ultraflows........they are well worth every penny. :Brow: Just stay away from Kepich and you should be better off.
Sorry I did'nt see this sooner I ordered a complete exhaust system for a 1970 GTO plus the X-pipe kit for my 72 Olds 442 from PYPES. I had to order the downpipe's(headpipes) from Torque Tech for an Olds 455. I'm using the headpipes from the GTO kit on our T-37 resto. I mixed and matched the torque tech stuff with the PYPES kit, and my personal opinion is that the pypes stuff is exactly what they claim it to be!!!! As good as Torque Tech, etc. Only a whole lot cheaper. The straight tailpipes for a GTO worked great for the Olds with the cut-out bumper, plus they had very nice(and reasonable) Stainless 2.5 inch Olds trumpet's. I would imagine these straight tailpipes would work on a GS with the N-25 bumper as wello No: From past experience, I like TA's tailpipe's the best on a non-N25 Buick, They are angle-cut at the tip's. They tuck up really nice to the trunk floor, and the tips just peek out below the bumper.
