Hello everyone. I'm looking for a factory carb # 7042240 for my 72 GS 455. It was assembled the third week of Dec. 71 , so the date codes shown above are the window which I'm looking for. Rebuildable is fine ,good working or already rebuilt O.K. too . I don't know much about carbs , so the more complete, the better. Any help appreciated.
well, CLOSE! Kevin. .I do have a carb. .7042240, however, its a build code of 0942. Lemme know if you don't find the exact carb you need. Also, whats so bad about the original one you have? Ya know, John Osborne can rebuild pretty much ANY QJ. . with fantastic results! :TU: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
The one I have ain't right, that's what's wrong with it! My carb was built about a year before my car , and it's off of a full size. Why should I rebuild the wrong one , then worry about selling it later when I find the right one ? Doesn't it make more sense to get the right one ,rebuild it ,put it on , THEN sell the wrong one to someone who needs it ? Just my line of thinking .
I don't want your carb,but.... Hey thanks for trying! I just figure if I go though the trouble, I might as well make it as close as possible to the right date. Anyway, I WILL need some N 25 tips in the near future :Brow: so all is not lost. I'll P.M. you when the time arrives.Still gathering parts.
Kevin, I've got a 3491 code that was off a running '72 Electra w/455. Complete, could stand a rebuild. Let me know.
I may have a restored one that's in that date code range. It's sitting on my 72 GS 455 convertible's restored chassis, has been for several years. I'm probably going to part the car out anyway as it doesn't look like we will ever get it finished.
Thanks guys! Tim , if you could send me a pic and a price, we'll talk. Clark , if I can skip the rebuild and bolt it on , I'd like to go that route. But if for some reason it doesn't work out , I'll be in touch. Have a great Labor Day weekend :beer
Kevin, I actually don't even have a camera but could probably take the carb. off the engine and have somebody take a digital picture for me. As for price, I would have to get at least $300, as I think I paid $250 or better just for the restoration in the late 90's.
Just send a pic and we'll talk. I'm wondering if it was rebuilt that long ago , does it need to be freshened up ? When it was rebuilt , was it replated ? Thanks ,Kevin.
Kevin, The carb. was completely rebuilt/restored, with everything replated. The guy that did it supposedly ran it on his test engine, but I don't recall whether he told me it was done with gas or alcohol. I have never had fuel in it, as it's just sitting on my restored chassis.
Kevin, I was looking at that carb. today, and the date (3571)may be a little too late for your car. I may have some other rebuildable cores, but would need to look at the date codes.
Thanks for the info ,Jim . A Board member has hooked me up with a nice core. He's already sent pics and everything , so I appreciate it but as usual , you can't find any , then they come out of the wood work. Now my manifold on the other hand........ :boring: still looking.
