Will a q-jet fit on a Poston B-455 intake without an adapter? The bolt holes line up but it looks like it hangs over the front too much.
My combo exactly. I had to put a steel spacer between the carb and intake. The steel spacer seals to the intake on one side and the carb on the other side. Without it I had a really bad vaccum leak. Check here:http://v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=95796 post #17 talks about this althouhg it's for a TA intake it's the same principle. Dave B
Thank you. I have a steel spacer currently on my stock manifold that should work for the Poston. In post #17, Dave mentions putting a cut gasket down first then the spacer, then another gasket. Do you agree? And lastly, did you notice any improvement with the Poston over stock? MARK
Cutting the gasket sounds good to me, in fact i'd cut both gaskets to match the spacer, which I assume is open and not a four hole. As far as how much of an improvement the Poston is over stock, they're a lot of guys that say there's none except the benefit of weight, myself I've never run a 455 with out an aluminum intake. Oddly my car was faster with a Poston and a in bad shape 850 Thermo-Quad than it was with a B4B and a 800 Quadra-Jet that was set up by someone who actually knew what they were doing as opposed to me. I'd bet there's a lot of guys on this board that could knock a half second off my ET just with tuning. o No: Dave B
I don't get it - why would Postons and TA make their spreadbore manifold such that it won't work with a Q-jet? What am I missing? - Bill
Good question Bill, I've wondered the same thing. I guess that some compromises have to be made to make a duel purpose manifold. Dave B
I have a 4 hole gasket (I think). Is that bad? I think these intakes work just fine but they just have to be sealed properly. At least in my experience.
No choke on mine, I really only drive it in nice weather, besides I've never had any luck setting a choke up. Tried manuel a few times but you have to rember to push the knob back in. ou: Dave B
hey dave- what are you running for an air cleaner. I am also running a poston intake, a 4 hole wood 3/4" spacer with a q-jet. What size filter are you running with any drop in the base or not? Thanks Joe
Can't help ya there Joe, first I'm not running a spacer and my aircleaner is a leftover from my Mopar days. It's a mid sixties unsilenced aircleaner from a 383 engine, actually a repo in chrome. Dave B
ohh I thought you said you were running a steel spacer.. my bad. You should try a thicker 3/4-1" spacer. supposed to wake up the poston intake quite a bit
Hey, I'll give it a try as soon as I get my Poston bolted down. It's just sitting in there right now.
Joe I do have a spacer, but it's less than 1/8th inch thick and there to help the carb seal to the intake OK. I also have a 3/4 inch wood spacer that I could install but it's open and not four hole. I thought four hole was what your were supposed to use with the S-Divider. Have you run your engine with and without and compared them? Dave B
No, I haven't driven with or with out the spacer. Spacer is on right now, and all I can say is it revs nice....
