Qjet mods for TV cable?

Has anyone modified their Qjet so that it will correctly operate the TV cable from a 200-4R transmission? Is it possible to use parts from a mid-80's Qjet to make it work? Who makes a TV cable adapter like the units for Carter and Holley carbs that will work on the Qjet?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Randy

Devon, I looked through the thread you listed, but I didn't see an answer for the mods &/or bracket required that attaches to the bellcrank on the Qjet carb itself. The bracket that mounts on the back of the carb to hold the cable housing, as well as the fitting to mount the cable end look like items I can use, but I am more interested in getting the bellcrank to pull the cable the correct distance so the 200-4R trans will work properly.
I do appreciate the help though. Later, Randy

    Randy,

    Check this page out:

They have alot of other good info on that site.

Many 80's RWD full size cars had the 200-r4. I typically see them with the 307" Olds engine & Qjet. I can grab a factory cable bracket from one of those cars, if you don't have one.

Get the bracket for throttle cable / transmission throttle valve cable off any mid 80's to 90's rear wheel drive GM car with 4 bbl carb. use thick small mount gasket or two underneath stock Q-jet; (have to modify choke linkage to reach or convert choke to manual or electric) Edelbrock and Summit make adapters for mounting the TV cable to the carb itself. Bowtie Overdrives makes complete adapter / installation kit that has brackets that set correct geometry and the needed stuff (switches, wires, plugs) to adapt the lockup section electrically. TCI, B&M< others make kits also. You CAN install just the stud on the lever, but I forgot the radius dimension (did that trick on 78 El Camino). Will look for that dimension and hopefully post later. Found it 1.10 inches from center of linkage.

This is what I did for my QJ. I had a 600 Edelbrock on my 300, I put a 350 in it's place, but the QJ was different. I used my old TV cable swing arm and adapted it. File off the rectangular portion of the throttle shaft and eyeball the new arm so it will be at the 4:30 t0 7:00 o'clock position. Make your small marks on the arm and start fileing. The rectangle that you file out will slip over the throttle shaft. Make sure it's 1.1 " center to center. Drill and tap the shaft for a #6 screw. Put on some locktite and a washer and you're all set. This worked well on my 300 for 2 Years and have no doubt that it will work when I get my 350 running. If you aren't very good with your hands, or you want a factory look, see above posts.

I forgot to mention that I'm also using the stock (tho ported) intake. I bought an ebelbrock 3/4" wooden Four hole spacer. I figured that if it was too high, I could just run it through my planer and take off as much as I wanted for hood clearence. Just so that the arm would still have clearence and be able to swimg.

Once again, thanks for the info. I just picked up a mid-80's electronic Q-jet on ebay for $4 + shipping that has the correct bellcrank for the TV cable. Now I just have to adapt it to my carb, or copy the dimensions and fab a bracket that matches it. The 1.1" dimension from centerline seems to be the critical factor. Later, Randy

I am adapting my Qjet at this time.

so we are saying that with the 1.1" center of throttle shaft to center of TVcable ball dimension, the ball should swing from approx 4:30 to 7:00 positions when in the right position?

Edit: I had a GM Qjet sitting around with the lower arm so I cut it off and tack welded it onto my "test" carb. c-c the lower arm measured the 1.1". I ground the mushroom off the throttle shaft so I could see the mounting "rectangle", then lined up my extra piece with it. Came out perfect.
