I have my new buick up and running, but the advance is too early (its at 600 initial, 2200 full)....bumping it to 800 initial, 2600 full be ok? What the problem is that the intial is too early for the 2200 stall convert that I have in the trans....what happens is that it has a slight stumble until the advance and torque converter links together (at about 2200, 2500 rpm)... am I headed in the right direction? :Do No:

CyberBuick What she used to be....

Buy a curve kit and mix and match the weights until the advance doesn't start until 12-1500 and is all in by 2600.. Make sure when testing you leave the vac advance disconnected.

Sounds good to me, I figured that the start 800 to 2600 would suit me fine for what I have done to the motor....right now its comming in just a bit too early (about 500 to 600)....my car does 550-600 in drive  (with the A/C on too :Brow: ) I will try the 800 to 2600 springs when I get back home tonight...thanks for the tip Cyber :TU:

Easiest way to get a good selection of springs is to purchase a Crane adjustable vacuum advance. 996001- for large cap HEI, 99601-1 for points distributor, comes with scroll stop platge for vacuum advance, an Allen wrench and three sets of mechanical advance springs.

If you do this, e/mail me and I will send pics of how to do the stop plate correctly, different than Crane shows.

Now, start the mechanical curve 100 rpms over out of gear idle speed, limit to 200/300 rpms over stall speed lockout.

Vacuum advance, limit the degrees to between 8 and 10, adjust rate to suit acceleration, and, ALWAYS full manifold vacuum souring.

Still, this e/mail program on this site is archaic, will not allow a picture to be attached like a real e/mail will, at least, it won't let me do that.

Please send me a regular, real world e/mail, at sparkman451@earthlink.net let me know you want the vacuum advance stop pics and I will send same.

Ignitionman, I still have to put the stop plate in, I drilled the hole in the vacuume advance plate. Do I need to tap the hole, or just screw the small bolt in? :beer ...Oh BTW here are the pics!
